Peggy Noonan opines in the Wall Street Journal that President Barack Obama's final straw that breaks his presidential back is the Gulf oil spill.

"This is his third political disaster in his first 18 months in office. And they were all, as they say, unforced errors, meaning they were shaped by the president's political judgment and instincts," she writes.

She thinks the inventory of presidential gaffes is fatal:

• There was the unnecessary war over his healthcare proposal and its cost.

• There was his day-to-day indifference to the views and hopes of the majority of voters regarding illegal immigration.

• And now the past almost 40 days of dodging and dithering in the face of an environmental calamity. I don't see how you politically survive this.

Tea Party Candidate Is Nevada Hopeful On the Rise

Sharron Angle wants to wipe out Social Security, shutter the Education Department and return to the days almost a century ago when the federal income tax was unconstitutional.

A tea party conservative testing the limits of anti-government sentiment, she's also the Republican on the rise in an unpredictable race to pick an opponent for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a top Democrat in Washington who's in trouble at home.

What's more, she is evidently the Republican whom Reid would like most to run against. Witness a costly television campaign financed by the majority leader's backers to erode the support of the shaky Republican front-runner, Sue Lowden.

"I am the tea party," said Angle, a 60-year-old former Nevada lawmaker.

With early voting under way for the June 8 primary, Angle has nearly erased Lowden's double-digit lead in recent polls, thanks in part to endorsements from the Tea Party Express and other conservative groups, including the anti-tax Club for Growth. Lowden, a former state senator, has stumbled after she suggested people might barter for health care using chickens and she faced financial questions about the use of a leased bus.

Club for Growth began airing an ad statewide Wednesday that calls Angle a fiscal conservative and common-sense fighter and argues that Lowden supports huge spending increases and that she backed Reid.

The three top Republicans in the 12-candidate field — Angle, Lowden, 58, and Danny Tarkanian, 48 — have in earlier surveys polled better than Reid, a four-term senator taking the heat for the state's 13.7 percent unemployment rate, soaring home foreclosures and bankruptcy rates.

Angle is among hundreds of candidates nationwide testing how far voters want to go in 2010 to remake the federal government.

"A tsunami of conservatism is coming in waves across our country," she says. "My message is what the people want."

The loosely organized tea party movement has galvanized conservatives with its push for limited government, spending cuts and free markets, but their candidates could face risks if voters see them as too far out of the mainstream, particularly in states like Nevada where independents play a crucial role in statewide races.

Kentucky GOP senatorial candidate Rand Paul, a tea party favorite, has been on the defensive since last week, when he expressed misgivings about the 1964 Civil Rights Act and suggested the federal government shouldn't have the power to force businesses to serve minorities.

In a tough year for incumbents, particularly Democrats, who control the White House and Congress, Reid and other lawmakers could benefit from Republican divisions.

Former Nevada GOP Chairman Chris Comfort fears the infighting could weaken the party's chances in November coast to coast. "There is a lot of fracturing occurring within the Republican Party," Comfort says.

Angle calls Social Security "a broken system without much to recommend it." She hasn't offered a detailed plan but says seniors now collecting benefits would not be cut off. Workers over time would be shifted to private retirement accounts, an idea that is similar to what former President George W. Bush proposed six years ago only to see it flop.

"I really don't trust big government," Angle told voters gathered at a private home, explaining her support for ending Social Security. "When big government gets in control, we know those great ideas turn out to be something that hits us right in the wallet."

Tinkering with Social Security has long been politically perilous, and none of Angle's leading GOP rivals agree it should be phased out. Social Security faces a $5.3 trillion shortfall over the next 75 years and it's projected to run out of money by 2037.

Angle's proposal "is completely out of step," says Robert Uithoven, campaign manager for Lowden. "In a state that has a huge number of retirees, it's not a proposal Nevadans ... would back."

Angle also says cutting taxes isn't sufficient. She wants to repeal the 16th Amendment, which created the federal income tax, a move that would make it impossible for the government to operate. Angle says the federal income tax — and the entire Internal Revenue Service code — could be replaced with a flat-tax-type system.

The government plans to collect about $935.8 billion in individual income taxes and about $156.7 billion in corporate income taxes, according to the Obama administration's estimates for the current budget year, which ends on Sept. 30. The two taxes together make up about half of the total revenues the government estimates it will take in.

Angle has a long record as an oppositional figure in Carson City. During four terms in the state Assembly, she was known for her consistent votes against tax increases, sometimes unconventional views and a folksy, Sarah Palin-esque style. She wanted female inmates to enter a drug rehabilitation program devised by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, an idea she still defends.

"Those folks in the federal government, at the United States level ... should be the least powerful in the nation rather than the most powerful because of the way our founders set up our government," she says.

She found a receptive audience in Pahrump, a ranching area-turned-exurb of 37,000 about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

Brian Shoemake, 52, a Web designer, said Angle was the kind of conservative who could help remake the Republican Party, which he said has drifted from its roots.

"I have the tea party mentality," Shoemake said. He said he was leaning toward Angle in the primary because "I don't believe the other candidates are well-versed enough in the Constitution."

Republican Donna Geiser, 63, a goat rancher and retired telecommunications analyst, said she and her husband pay $1,000 a month for health insurance and fear Washington's health care overhaul will drive up those costs.

Their mortgage is paid off, so health care is their biggest bill each month and a strain on the household budget.

In supporting Angle, Geiser said she wants to "send a message to Washington that we are tired of the bureaucrats. They are not looking out for the little people."

Daley and Chicago's Gun Ban

Did you hear the one about the Chicago Gun Ban?

No? Well, let me tell you.

Young man enters an 80-year-old man’s home armed. Struggle ensues. Intruder’s gun goes off. Doesn’t cause harm. Homeowner also has gun. Homeowner kills intruder. No charges against homeowner.

But wait… What about the homeowner having a gun?

Chicago has a law which says a person may not own a handgun. So he saved his life, his wife’s life, but broke the law by having a gun. The intruder broke the law too, but it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t follow the laws just like other robbers, and he’s dead now anyway.

Good thing this homeowner broke the law, had a gun, and used his gun, or the end of this story probably would have been about the homeowner and his wife getting killed.

The Chicago Gun Ban is being fought in the Supreme Court as this law is being contested.

Now, if Mayor Daley doesn’t have the homeowner arrested for having a gun in Chicago, Daley’s allowing this homeowner to break the law Daley is fighting for so hard. If Daley does have the homeowner arrested for having a gun in Chicago, the public outcry will be the biggest Chicago’s seen in a good long while.

Maybe it’s time to reconsider the Chicago Gun Ban without wasting the Supreme Court’s time.

So, now you heard the one about the Chicago Gun Ban.

If you’re saying, “This isn’t funny,” you’re right. But you can’t deny that the Chicago Gun Ban is a joke.

Women cheat just as much as men but they claim their motivations make it less offensive than when a man cheats. Personally, I believe a man has the right to cheat if he is a good provider and father. Wives don't have much to offer the alpha male and they know it which is why they try to make being taken care of an obligation. I can't tell you how many guys I know that work so hard so their wives can be a stay-at-home-mom and are the best fathers only to get chewed out for cheating. Men are going to cheat. No woman is so great that- that's why even supermodels get cheated on. Put yourself in a man's shoes- you work your ass off so your husband can stay home with the kids and all of your free time is spent with the kids. Do you know how hard that is? At least the wife gets a break when the husband comes home. Most housewives don't do shit most of the day because the kids are in school 6 hours a day. You're not going to take care of your husband's needs but he is certainly taking care of yours.
Cut us some slack and grow up.

Santorum: Special Prosecutor Should Investigate Sestak Bribery Allegation: obama

Santorum: Special Prosecutor Should Investigate Sestak Bribery Allegation
Wednesday, 26 May 2010 08:13 PM
Article Font Size

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum tells Newsmax that a special prosecutor should be appointed to investigate whether the Obama administration offered Rep. Joe Sestak a job if he dropped out of the Pennsylvania Democratic primary race he eventually won against Sen. Arlen Specter.

In an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview, Santorum said the allegation, if true, amounts to bribery and possibly an impeachable offense. He also compared the situation with the federal charges disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in Illinois is facing.

“I think it’s very serious,” Santorum said. “The president of the United States cannot and should not be out there trying to bribe people to not run for political office.

“To put it in the inverse, you have a governor of Illinois who’s potentially going to go to jail by trying to sell an office,” Santorum said, referring to Blagojevich. “And here you’re trying in a sense to sell people on not running for an office by giving them another office. So I think that’s a big problem.”

Story continues below.

Santorum, who served two terms in the Senate before losing a re-election bid in 2006, is a commentator for Fox News. A stalwart conservative, he is being touted as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012 and is traveling across the country to measure support for such a run.

In a wide-ranging interview, Santorum also said:

* Attorney General Eric Holder is unlikely to launch an investigation into the Sestak affair because of “his track record of not prosecuting Democrats or liberals.”
* The Obama administration’s national defense policy is a dangerous mishmash of political correctness that doesn’t see Islamic fundamentalism as a security threat but is worried about global warming.
* Democratic attacks on the Arizona immigration law are not only incorrect but have become reprehensible, with standing ovations given to Mexico’s president in the Congress as he attacks America.
* He was surprised by the collapse of Specter in Democratic primary, but believes the field is now wide open for GOP candidate Pat Toomey, who has money and popularity with grassroots conservatives in Pennsylvania.
* Strong candidates who have emerged in Washington state, California and Connecticut have given the GOP a good chance of winning back the Senate as well as the House.

Santorum said he is deeply troubled by a pattern of political maneuvering that has characterized the Obama White House. A president who had campaigned on building bipartisanship has instead become one of the most divisive presidents in recent memory.

As a result, Santorum said he doesn’t expect that Holder will delve deeply into the Sestak affair. It was Sestak himself who originally alleged that the White House approached him, telling Fox News' Bret Baier in March that he was offered a position in the administration to leave the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary.

Now that he has won the primary, however, Sestak has stopped talking about the allegation and refused as recently as this week to answer reporters' questions about the incident. Seven senior Republican senators Wednesday told Attorney General Eric Holder they want a special prosecutor to investigate the allegations.

"I have nothing else to say on the matter," Sestak said in the Capitol Tuesday.

The White House has been similarly tight-lipped. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs fended off a dozen questions about Sestak's allegation during a press briefing last week. On Sunday, Gibbs told CBS' Bob Schieffer, "I'm not a lawyer. But lawyers in the White House and others have looked into conversations that were had with Congressman Sestak, and nothing inappropriate happened."

Santorum said that may be true, but the charges are so troubling they should be investigated.

“I’m not particularly confident in this attorney general given his track record of not prosecuting Democrats or liberals that he’ll do anything but I would hope that they would look at this and seriously analyze whether a law was broken,” Santorum said.

“If what he [Obama] did, actually offering a bribe to an elected official for that political purpose, then certainly committing a crime like that is an impeachable offense,” Santorum said.

Adding to Santorum’s skepticism is the fact that Sestak now has the momentum in the Pennsylvania senate race because of his surprise victory over Specter.

“It surprised me he got knocked off as easily as he did,” Santorum said of Specter. “And when I say that, Joe Sestak ran one of the weakest campaigns I’ve ever seen run in Pennsylvania. He didn’t have much of an organization. He didn’t do a particularly good job raising money. He went out and said some controversial things . . . such as the president potentially tried to bribe him to get him out of the race. I mean, he’s a bit of an erratic kind of guy and he basically knocked Arlen Specter out of the race with one television commercial.”

The lesson of the election was to stay true to your beliefs – a principle Specter violated, Santorum said.

“So I think what it shows is if you’re a 30-year incumbent and you switch parties and give up every belief you had and go to the other side then you’re rather cynical about why you’re running and people in this election are not going to be supporting you and that’s what happened,” Santorum said.

The key for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections will be to lay out a clear vision in economic and national security policy that distinguishes them from the Democrats. One important area will be homeland defense, he said. Another will be the growing immigration issue triggered by the passage of Arizona’s tough but popular new law.

In terms of defense, Santorum said, Obama still doesn’t realize what the threat to the homeland really is.

Santorum pointed to the Quadrennial Defense Review, a blueprint for homeland defense that is updated every four years. The latest version doesn’t even mention the threat of Islamic-based terrorism.

“Not once was the word Islam or Muslim mentioned in that document,” Santorum said. “Yet they spent eight pages talking about the strategic threat to our country of global warming. So we have a politically correct atmosphere not just in the attorney general’s office, but in the defense department and in the White House and it’s coming from the top down.

“This is someone (Holder) who obviously who does not consider the threat that we’re engaged with – the people who tried to blow themselves up over Detroit, the people who did successfully kill people at Fort Hood, the situation in Times Square and others – to be a legitimate threat. But this is consistent with the entire administration,” Santorum added.

Santorum, trained as an attorney, also slammed the administration’s attacks on the Arizona immigration law. He called the attempts to characterize it as racist a blatant political move to win over Hispanic support in the elections.

In fact, the law has more protections against racial profiling than federal law – a fact that administration officials like Holder, who admitted he hadn’t read the law – have sidestepped.

“It’s a power play on the part of President Obama,” Santorum said. “This is a man who was supposed to be a conciliator, no red state/blue state, we’re going to bring people together – he has done anything like that.

“He has divided this country. He divides people by race. He divides people by gender. He divides them by every means you can possibly give to give special classes to folks and pit one group against the other for political advantage.”

Santorum was particularly insulted that the administration sided with Mexican President Felipe Calderon as he attacked the law during a joint session of Congress.

Calderon “stood before a joint session of Congress and insulted the people of Arizona and got a standing ovation from Democrats, which was reprehensible to see your country condemned and applauding that condemnation.”

Why does no one have a clue about how to fix the damn oil well leak? Blame the fucking tree huggers for pushing the oil wells out beyond depths where management is possible. Engineers in the past have fixed leaks on land and in shallow water, but at depths of 5000ft shits get exponentially more difficult and time-consuming. Neither Obama, government scientists, NASA, or BP has a quick fix. The only assured solution is to drill relief wells. That will take months.

Thank you, environmentalist geniuses. In your efforts to preserve your fantasy world, you've created a bigger mess.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday
to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid
to head off potential terror attacks..

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims
on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the
nation's mosques.

Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS,
NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some
individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we
have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.
'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials
and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to
become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right
wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on
Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly
documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of
our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another
part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our
culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is
that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with
us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs,
or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other
great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you
aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You
asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Obama's Boot On America's Throat

Obama Has His Boot on the Throat of the United States of America

Director of Homeland Security, Big Sis, Janet Napolitano, said that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) "is not obligated to process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities. 'ICE has the legal discretion to accept or not to accept persons delivered to it by non-federal personnel,' Napolitano said. 'It also has the discretion to deport or not to deport persons delivered to it by any government agents, even its own.'" Meaning, ICE has the independent ability to enforce the law or not, depending upon the whim of whoever is running ICE or the Department of Homeland Security.

" Any previous administration facing this kind of opposition to what they're doing, they'd start backing off. But not this bunch.

It's almost like they enjoy getting up every morning and saying, 'Hey, you think it's bad now? Try this!' and they throw another mud ball at us, and they enjoy it." So the ICE guy, John Morton, goes out there, loves telling the Chicago Tribune editorial board, "Eh, screw Arizona. We're not going to take any referrals from them. We don't have to." We think a federal reform, comprehensive reform, that's the only way to deal with this." And Napolitano says, "Yeah, yeah, we don't have to. We can or can't. It's up to us." So once again, the federal government is telling us in Arizona, (raspberry).

Yesterday it was Felipe Calderon, brought in to Washington to say to Arizona, "(raspberry) you!" Today it's Janet Napolitano and John Morton of ICE, (raspberry) you. To a state. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Ahmadenijad. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Hugo Chavez. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Fidel Castro. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to the ChiComs. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Kim Jong-il. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Dmitry Medvedev. It's not "(raspberry) you!" to Vladimir Putin. It's "(raspberry) you!" and "(raspberry) (raspberry)(raspberry) you, Arizona," from Obama, from Napolitano, and now from John Morton at ICE, and also from SeƱor Wences. And all of these (raspberry) (raspberry)(raspberry) (raspberry)(raspberry) you gets a standing ovation from the Democrats in the House of Representatives, a standing ovation during a joint session.

"You know, you expect these guys to start backing down after all this opposition." They enjoy this, folks. They enjoy roiling our culture. Only people who do not much like this country would enjoy doing what they're doing. If you had a profound love and respect for the greatness, the traditions, the institutions that made this country great, you wouldn't be doing what this regime is doing -- and if you did have respect for the greatness and the traditions and the institutions in this country and some of this was going on, you'd have a little guilty conscience about it. But, no! It's just the opposite. They seem happy. They seem to enjoy all of this. They seem to actually enjoy every day getting up and causing more of this.

Harris: 3 in 5 Give Obama Negative Rating
Friday, 21 May 2010 04:31 PM
Article Font Size

Nearly 3 out of 5 Americans give President Obama negative job ratings, according to The Harris Poll.

The actual tally is 58 percent negative and 42 percent positive, according to the May 10-17 poll, released Friday. It is almost unchanged from last month, when 59 percent ranked him negatively, and 41 percent, positively.

Harris pollsters noted that it is not surprising that 92 percent of Republicans chalk up negative rankings, but noted that 68 percent of independents and 25 percent of Democrats also do.

Although 77 percent say he’s a tough fighter for issues he believes in, and two-thirds believe he usually gets his own way, some also believe that he has piled his plate too high. Three in 5 say he tries to do too many things at once.

Public opinion is closely divided on whether he changes his mind too often: 44 percent say he doesn’t flip-flop, while 43 percent say he does.

The differences between Republicans and Democrats are smaller than one might expect, Harris analysts say. For example, 68 percent of Democrats and 66 percent of Republicans believe Obama usually is able to get Congress to support his policies.

One exception is notable: Almost 9 in 10 Democrats say Obama is a strong leader, compared with just 1 in 5 Republicans.

Devastated Illegal with 4.0 GPA Unable to Attend UC Berkeley
contracostatimes.com — Although the 17-year-old Gladys Castro carries a 4.09 grade-point average and has been accepted to the university, she cannot apply for government loans because she's an illegal immigrant and doesn't have a Social Security number. When she was 8 years old, her family fled the crime and violence of their hometown in Jalisco, Mexico.

Oh, and by the way, she could also enroll in a Mexican university, and attend a U.S. university as an exchange student. Yes, she is not getting grants and loans, but why should she? Will Mexico subsidize my education if I want to attend a school there, after moving there illegally? Of course not.

on 05/18/2010 The entitlement attitude among illegals is absurd.

I'll admit that if I were born in Mexico, I'd try to come here illegally. However, if I got caught, I wouldn't complain.

I wouldn't bitch and moan after getting a FREE education that I can't get even more FREE grants or loans. I'd realize that loan money is reserved for actual citizens.

Things have gone far enough, it's time to draw the line and refuse to permit any more entitlements for illegals.

on 05/18/2010 a couple things stuck out for me in this article as an atheist libertarian on digg.

"California has already dumped $100,000 in free education (on her),"

WTF?!?!? 100 grand for a K-12 education?!!you can go to a prep school with that kind of money instead of a ***** public school.

"An evangelical Christian, Castro would ask the campus Christian club to pray for her situation, the request couched in vague terms so as not to let on about her status. "

lol, fail.

"Although the 17-year-old Kaiser High School senior carries a 4.09 grade-point average and has been accepted to the university, she cannot apply for government loans because she's an illegal immigrant and doesn't have a Social Security number...In the meantime, she plans to attend Riverside Community College in the summer and fall while she figures out how to pay for Berkeley."

Wait, wtf? so this whole article is about how she can't pay to go a top school so she expects a free ride or something?! or she wants other tax payers to subsidize her education? ***** that.

on 05/18/2010 In America, an illegal immigrant has received a free education all the way through High School and is upset that she cannot get Government grants to offset the cost of College.

Meanwhile, Let’s take a look at Mexico’s immigration laws:

According to Reglamento de la Ley General Poblacion—Mexico’s population and immigration law passed in 2000—the federal, local, and municipal police must work with federal immigration authorities to arrest illegal immigrants.

Article 67 says “Authorities, whether federal, state or municipal are required to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country before attending to any issues.”

Illegal immigration is a felony in Mexico, and if convicted, an illegal immigrant can be sent to prison for up to two years. But that’s not all. Deported immigrants who try to return to Mexico can actually be punished with a 10 year prison sentence, and those who violate their Visa can be thrown in prison for up to six years. Also, any Mexican citizen who helps an illegal immigrant could face criminal charges.

Other key points you should know about Mexico’s immigration laws:

- Foreigners who are considered a threat to economic or national interests can be deported.

- Those foreigners who don’t have the “necessary funds for their sustenance” may be deported.

- Foreigners can’t be a burden to taxpayers, so there is no welfare, food stamps, healthcare, or other government assistance.

- Foreigners may not protest or have any demonstrations. This can lead to deportation.

- Citizenship is granted on a basis “according to (the immigrant’s) possibilities of contributing to national progress.”

- Naturalized Mexicans (those granted citizenship by means other than birth) may not hold dual citizenship and can’t run for most government posts.

The more you know.....

on 05/18/2010 This is the type of person that should be put on the fast-track to citizenship. I usually consider illegals criminals, but she obviously didn't enter the country illegally under her own volition so I don't think many would have a problem with her getting a temporary school visa while she works on getting citizenship.

Also, if her marks are so high, she may not get the selection of schools she wants, but I'm sure she could get a full scholarship somewhere.

on 05/18/2010 I'll absolve the girl of any wrongdoing, as she was brought here as an 8-year old child. And I don't see an issue with the government refusing a loan to someone living here illegally. The "injustice" of the situation rests squarely on the shoulders of her parents. According to the article, the left Jalisco for some place safer, which I can understand. They chose to enter a country illegally, and without a SS or Green Card, I'd imagine that they haven't contributed anything other than illegal labor to shady employers. The girl seems bright, and hopefully there's some kind of resolution that can be reached (ideally, with her becoming a citizen), but the only people at fault for this situation are her parents.

Unrelated to the above, the GPA system in high schools is totally *****. Most of the kids in my honors classes graduated with a 4.5+ due to weighted programs and schools doing whatever they can to 'improve scores' each year. The number has lost the little meaning it had left.

forbidden by law or statute.

criminal: (the most relevant to this discussion)
guilty of crime.

crime:
A crime is a wrongdoing classified by the state or Congress as a felony or misdemeanor.

A crime is an offense against a public law.

thus your argument is incorrect. parking violation does make you a criminal, being and illegal immigrant does make you a criminal.

if you do not pay your parking fine you could go to jail.

on 05/18/2010 I don't get it.
So its not OK to enter the country illegally, but once here they should have equal access to free education, health-care, social programs, etc.
If you want to advocate open borders, then go ahead do it, and be honest about it.
Otherwise, if illegal immigration is a crime that it makes absolutely no sense build all sorts of programs to support illegible immigrants. In fact, quite the opposite, everything should be done to make it difficult for them to get away with it.
Want you kids in school? Fine, back to Mexico.
Don't enroll your kids in school--that's against the law. Back to Mexico.
Need health care. Fine, once your medically stable, back to Mexico (with the bill).
But that's so cruel! Fine, don't come here illegally. Stay in Mexico.
Oh, also, you will be billed for the deportation costs.

1. Plan9

[http://cm.bell-labs.com/plan9/ Plan9] is an operating system designed by developers at Bell Labs.

Although Plan 9 derives from Unix it uses a different approach, and is not compatible with Unix like Operating Systems.. Commands differ, the internal workings differ, setup, configuration and maintenance differ.

See the [http://cm.bell-labs.com/plan9/ Plan9 Homepage] for lots of Talk about this.

2. About this Tutorial

This Tutorial walks through setup and configuration and maintenance tasks of a Network of Plan9 machines, taking into account the most recent kernels and tools (at the time of writing, of course).

A rather good understanding of computers and operating systems is required, you should at least know Linux or any other Unix like operating system from the point of view of a Systemadministrator.

I have put it together while figureing out things out for myself. The main source of information have been the excelent manual pages of Plan9 as well as the papers, all found on the Plan9 [http://cm.bell-labs.com/plan9/ homepage].

There are two intended modes of reading:

Newcomers:
should be able to read and execute this tutorial from top to bottom and find themselves left with a working Plan9 network
Recidivists:
should find it easy to encounter the bits and pieces of information they always wanted to have in one place

While following the steps, one should be able to copy and paste the given examples (with shaded background) either directly to the target system, or, as I do often for the Xen/textonly installations, copy them to an open editor window of the host operating system, modify what needs to, and copy and paste from the editor window to the Plan9 console or terminal.

Since this is a [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiWikiWeb Wiki], the whole tutorial is made up of single Wiki pages containing just the information of a certain context, and can be accessed directly. Find here the list of pages of the tutorial:

PageList(Plan9Tutorial/)

3. A Plan9 Network

in Plan9 (almost) any resource can be on another machine in the Network so, there are several roles a machine can take:

terminal:

Every end user is working with a terminal. A terminal machine has mouse, keyboard and a graphics display. It needs not have a hard disk, since files can be provided by a fileserver. The program drawterm simulates the behaviour of a terminal under other operating systems thus can be used as a terminal too.
fileserver:
the name is ambiguous, since a fileserver really is a program serving files either locally or via the network. As a machine, a "fileserver" runs a fileserver, thus providing its disk space, to other computers. Mainly: space for the user to store data as well as the program files the user is executing.

There can be several "fileservers" in a network, and a user will surely use external fileservers like for example the [http://cm.bell-labs.com/wiki/plan9/sources_repository/index.html Plan9 sources] fileserver.
cpuserver:
programs can be executed either locally or on a cpuserver; also processortime is a shared resource to Plan9. There can be several cpuservers in a Plan9 Network.
authserver:

A Plan9 network is "hold together" by an authserver. This is a program which authenticates users of an authentication domain via the network. For security reasons it is recommendable to run the authserver on a dedicate machine, which would then be the "authserver". So in one Plan9 network there is just one authentication server. In practice the authentication domain will be a string the same as the DNS domain of the network, or a subdomain of it.

4. Kernel types

File, cpu and authentication server normally don't need a mouse, keyboard, and display, since they should be left alone and are probably locked away in a serverroom.

The Plan9 kernel can be (re)compiled to accomplish the different tasks described in "A Plan9 Network", as well as with the drivers needed for a certain hardware configuration. Thus the kernel size is kept small and more space for user processes is left.

There is a distinction between "cpu" and "terminal" kernels:

terminal:

at bootup a terminal kernel asks for a username. This user will be the hostowner until the next reboot. If any resource on the network which requires authorization is accessed, authentication against the user with the same name in the authserver is initiated. BR It is often handy to have a terminal kernel around even on cpu machines for administrative and maintenance tasks, because you can become any user without being asked for a password.
cpu:
a cpu kernel reads the username (an password) of the hostowner either from nvram, or from a 1 block partition on the harddisk which is used to simulate the nvram. Thus the cpu kernel can startup without user interaction.

During the boot process an initial rc script is run. On a terminal kernel it is looked for at /rc/bin/termrc, on the cpu kernel in /rc/bin/cpurc

Include(Plan9Tutorial/SetupConsiderations, 'Setup Considerations', 1)

5. Os Installation

You will (obviously) have to install Plan9 on several computers. For this you have several choices:

* Install on a dedicated hardware:
o

See the [http://cm.bell-labs.com/wiki/plan9/installation_instructions/ official installation instructions]
* Installation under Qemu
o

./QemuInstall
* Installation under Xen
o

./XenInstall

After this you can proceed with the network setup.

If you are using Xen instances - which do not provide a grafical environment, you will want to connect to your Plan9 computers via [http://swtch.com/drawterm/ drawterm] which runs under Linux, OsX and Windows.

6. Setup of different Services

Include(Plan9Tutorial/AuthServer, 'Authentication Server', 2)

Include(Plan9Tutorial/FileServer, 'CPU & Fileserver', 2)

6.1. Connecting with a Terminal

* TODO: there are several forms how to get to a terminal, e.g. installing Plan9 under Qemu. However I'd like to facilitate a prefabricated Qemu-Term kernel and setup, which doesn't need the setup CD then. TODO: termrc and especially /lib/ndb/* setup for the terminal

6.2. Secstore

There are essentially two tasks to set up and fill a secstore for a user:

* creating the secstore user on the authserver with an "administrative" account
* creating a (factotum) file on the secstore as the secstore user

The first step has already been done for the hostowner user of the authserver. We repeat the command here for reference, you must be logged in as the hostowner on the authserver:

auth/secuser

You will be asked for the secstore password (which is not the user password) and some other data for which you can (should) use the defaults.

Now start a terminal as the user for which you created the secstore. Or tell the user to do this and proceed as follows. You need both: the secstore password and the users password.

* open a fresh window in the terminal
* log into the authserver to generate an entry in factotum

cpu -h porticus
exit

* create an initial factotum file and edit it

ramfs –p; cd /tmp
cat /mnt/factotum/ctl > factotum
acme factotum

*

You get a line like: key proto=p9sk1 dom=magma.intern user=user !password?
*

change the ? sign at the end of the line to =password, ok, make it look like:
o

key proto=p9sk1 dom=magma.intern user=user !password=password
* store the modified file to the secstore

auth/secstore –p factotum

*

then destroy the window, to leave no traces of your cleartext password.

When you login next time, you will be asked for your secstore password instead of your user password.

Maintenance of the factotum file is done by the ipso command, which must be run from a standalone terminal. We'll see into that later.

7. Administrative Tasks

Include(Plan9Tutorial/AddUser, 'Adding a user', 2)

8. Other Helpful Things

*

./RcProfile
o This sets up a system wide 'profile' for the rc(1) shell, separating concerns from shell setup and user environment setup
*

./RcScripts
o Several scripts which provide commands I find nice to have.
* ndb setup, to include Plan9 related systems:

cat > /lib/ndb/plan9 <# /lib/ndb/plan9
# LEG20061122
#
# Plan9 related external systems

auth=sources.cs.bell-labs.com authdom=outside.plan9.bell-labs.com
auth=brd.9grid.de authdom=9grid.de
EOF

* then modify /lib/ndb/local to contain:

database=
file=/lib/ndb/local
file=/lib/ndb/common
file=/lib/ndb/plan9
file=/lib/ndb/auth

9. TODO

* delete a user
* setup ssh connections
* fossil+venti adm
* secstore
* explain network config, ntp config
* drawterm from Linux, Windows (?)
* 9fs to/from Linux
* nfs
*

./CpuChangeHostowner

I see this question posted with some regularity in the personals section, so I thought I'd take a minute to explain things to the ladies out there that haven't figured it out.

What happened to all the nice guys?

The answer is simple: you did.

See, if you think back, really hard, you might vaguely remember a Platonic guy pal who always seemed to want to spend time with you. He'd tag along with you when you went shopping, stop by your place for a movie when you were lonely but didn't feel like going out, or even sit there and hold you while you sobbed and told him about how horribly the (other) guy that you were fucking treated you.

At the time, you probably joked with your girlfriends about how he was a little puppy dog, always following you around, trying to do things to get you to pay attention to him. They probably teased you because they thought he had a crush on you. Given that his behavior was, admittedly, a little pathetic, you vehemently denied having any romantic feelings for him, and buttressed your position by claiming that you were "just friends." Besides, he totally wasn't your type. I mean, he was a little too short, or too bald, or too fat, or too poor, or didn't know how to dress himself, or basically be or do any of the things that your tall, good-looking, fit, rich, stylish boyfriend at the time pulled off with such ease.

Eventually, your Platonic buddy drifted away, as your relationship with the boyfriend got more serious and spending time with this other guy was, admittedly, a little weird, if you werent dating him. More time passed, and the boyfriend eventually cheated on you, or became boring, or you realized that the things that attracted you to him weren't the kinds of things that make for a good, long-term relationship. So, now, you're single again, and after having tried the bar scene for several months having only encountered players and douche bags, you wonder, "What happened to all the nice guys?"

Well, once again, you did.

You ignored the nice guy. You used him for emotional intimacy without reciprocating, in kind, with physical intimacy. You laughed at his consideration and resented his devotion. You valued the aloof boyfriend more than the attentive "just-a-" friend. Eventually, he took the hint and moved on with his life. He probably came to realize, one day, that women aren't really attracted to guys who hold doors open; or make dinners just because; or buy you a Christmas gift that you mentioned, in passing, that you really wanted five months ago; or listen when you're upset; or hold you when you cry. He came to realize that, if he wanted a woman like you, he'd have to act more like the boyfriend that you had. He probably cleaned up his look, started making some money, and generally acted like more of an asshole than he ever wanted to be.

Fact is, now, he's probably getting laid, and in a way, your ultimate rejection of him is to thank for that. And I'm sorry that it took the complete absence of "nice guys" in your life for you to realize that you missed them and wanted them. Most women will only have a handful of nice guys stumble into their lives, if that.

So, if you're looking for a nice guy, here's what you do:

1.) Build a time machine.
2.) Go back a few years and pull your head out of your ass.
3.) Take a look at what's right in front of you and grab ahold of it.

I suppose the other possibility is that you STILL don't really want a nice guy, but you feel the social pressure to at least appear to have matured beyond your infantile taste in men. In which case, you might be in luck, because the nice guy you claim to want has, in reality, shed his nice guy mantle and is out there looking to unleash his cynicism and resentment onto someone just like you.

If you were five years younger.

So, please: either stop misrepresenting what you want, or own up to the fact that you've fucked yourself over. You're getting older, after all. It's time to excise the bullshit and deal with reality. You didn't want a nice guy then, and he certainly doesn't fucking want you, now.

Sincerely,

A Recovering Nice Guy

Arizona limits ethnic studies in public schools

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

* Law bans classes that "promote resentment" of other racial groups
* Gov. Jan Brewer approves the measure without public statement
* Brewer's signature comes less than a month after she signed immigration law

(CNN) -- Fresh on the heels of a new immigration law that has led to calls to boycott her state, Arizona's governor has signed a bill banning ethnic studies classes that "promote resentment" of other racial groups.

Gov. Jan Brewer approved the measure without public statement Tuesday, according to state legislative records. The new law forbids elementary or secondary schools to teach classes that are "designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group" and advocate "the overthrow of the United States government" or "resentment toward a race or class of people."

The bill was pushed by state school Superintendent Tom Horne, who has spent two years trying to get Tucson schools to drop a Mexican-American studies program he said teaches Latino students they are an oppressed minority. There was no immediate response from the Tucson Unified School District, the law's main target.

Brewer's signature comes less than a month after she approved a state law that requires immigrants to carry their registration documents at all times and allows police to question individuals' immigration status in the process of enforcing any other law or ordinance. Critics of the law say it will lead to racial profiling, while supporters say it involves no racial profiling and is needed to crack down on increasing crime involving illegal immigrants.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council overwhelmingly approved a boycott of Arizona-based businesses and governments unless the state repeals the new immigration law.

The city's legislative analyst reported that Los Angeles currently has $56 million in contracts with companies headquartered in Arizona.

Several other California cities, including San Francisco and Oakland, have already adopted resolutions requesting city departments to not sign any new contracts with Arizona companies.

In case you didn't hear, the Los Angeles city council passed a financial and social boycott of Arizona last night. A city council that is willing to spend any amount of taxpayer money for their own pet projects now think they have the right to force other states to act just like them.

Support Arizona and don't come to or spend any money in Los Angeles.

Even thought I live here in Los Angeles I detest the commie, left wing bullshit that out city council and mayor dream up. Don't stop going to, or buying from Arizona. Do stop supporting Los Angeles. Let us just sink into the Pacific. I still can't believe that the council passed this 13 to 1. Yet the populace, according to two local polls support Arizona by 62% agree, 23% disagree, the rest are too stoned to answer. God, I just hate my city government. And the state government is a close second.

Guess who was responsible for the oil rig disaster that is spewing out over 5 million barrels a day into the Gulf Ocean. Well if you listen to Democrat Ed Markey House Rep in Massachusetts he'll tell you that it's all Bush's fault. Claiming that it was due to lax check ups and regulations while Bush was in office. I might note that its the very same regulations we had under Bill Clinton too, but that of course doesn't count.

I was waiting for Markey to claim that Bush didn't do anything because obviously he was getting "kick backs" thru donations. Personally I would have laughed my ass off if he did because over the last 20 years what politician has received the money in donations? Why its none other than Barrack Obama.

Wasn't Obama going to allow new oil drilling? Makes you wonder.

You know when an average size state like Arizona got right in the Presidents face and put the smack down, it's bad. Obama looks like a total idiot to the majority of Americans. The only Americans that don't agree with me are the uneducated uninformed wimpy bastard children. Arizona is straight on attack mode and it's just getting started. That little state is going to win this fight in a HUGE way and liberals won't be able to surface with anything significant for a few decades. Jimmy Carter anyone??? Ha ha ha ha..

You know it's true. Good for Arizona straight punked the little wimp in the white house.

Obama can make a joke but he just got played by real ballers. SUCKER !!! The real joke is Obama and all his bitches ( aka Liberals)..

This is an open letter to the Mexican and Hispanic population in Los Angeles.

I realize you were born into a Latino culture and have different values. My parents were Asian Americans and obviously so am I. However, there is a difference between being proud of your culture and being downright rude. In grade school through high school I was called a "chino" or "chinita" by other Mexicans. I let it roll off my back. Because those same people who laughed in my face now work as security guards, truck drivers or delivery men. While my Asian American friends were taking English or Calculus AP, you guys were sitting in your lowriders smoking weed. So who has the last laugh now? You made fun of our accents, the way we look and our "chinky" eyes. As you may be aware by now, Asian Americans are the doctors, lawyers, engineers and computer professionals in our society. We live in white suburbs and speak perfect unaccented English. Asians line the halls of top Ivy League colleges. So don't be angry if an Asian American grocer owns a liquor store in your neighborhood or an Asian family has an Mexican gardener. Don't play the blame game. Maybe the feeling you should have is SHAME. It's absurdly simple. We work our ass off and achieved the American dream because we ASSIMILATED. We are proud of our Asian roots but also proud of being Americans. This great country gave us freedom and opportunity and we went for it. Perhaps your people should do the same.

Limbaugh Labels Kagan Unqualified 'Liberal Elitist'
Monday, 10 May 2010 05:39 PM
Article Font Size

By: Jim Meyers

Rush Limbaugh attacked President Obama’s nomination of Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court, calling her a “liberal elitist” who is unqualified for the court and has no clue about how ordinary Americans live.

The conservative radio talk show host on Monday also dismissed suggestions that Kagan, who served in the Clinton administration, is sympathetic to the right and could move the court in that direction.

“If the regime really thought she was open-minded, thought she was sympathetic to conservatives and their point of view, they never would have let her be nominated,” he said.

“It’s all a crock. If they had the slightest doubt of her far-left credentials, she would never have been nominated.”

Referring to Harriet Miers, the George W. Bush court nominee who withdrew her name when Democrats and Republicans objected to her lack of credentials, Limbaugh said about Kagan: “We don’t know anything about her. This woman is worse than Harriet Miers. Intellectually, she’s a lightweight.”

Noting that Kagan idolized Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall — she was a law clerk for Marshall — Limbaugh pointed out that, in a 1976 speech, Marshall “declared, according to a law review article she wrote, that the Constitution as originally drafted and conceived was defective. Only over the course of 200 years had the nation attained the system of constitutional government and its respect for individual freedoms and human rights that we hold as fundamental today.

“The Constitution today, the justice continued, has a great deal to be proud of. But the credit does not belong to the framers, it belongs to those who refused to acquiesce to outdated notions of liberty, justice and equality and who strived to better them.”

Rush continued: “The credit, in other words, belongs to people like Justice Marshall. So this is who Elena Kagan idolizes.”

Limbaugh also asserted that liberals never will object seriously “to her not being qualified. The only qualification is that you be liberal and believe the Supreme Court is to rewrite the Constitution. If you believe the Constitution is outdated and no longer serves a purpose, like Thurgood Marshall thought, that’s all the qualification you need.”

Limbaugh said he thinks Kagan plays basketball and referred to rumors that she smokes, adding that she is a “mirror image of Obama.”

Citing her upbringing on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and a life spent in academia, including as dean of Harvard Law School, Limbaugh said: “As is the case with all liberal elitist theoreticians, they have no clue how real Americans live. They think they know how Americans ought to live, and that is what they want to use the judiciary for.”

GOP Letter Warns: VAT Would Make US Like Greece

By: John Rossomando

The introduction of a tax on every stage of production, known as a value-added tax (VAT), in the United States could cause the nation’s economy to resemble that of debt-stricken Greece, House Republican leaders warned in a letter to the co-chairmen of President Obama’s debt-reduction commission.

Although the administration has not formally proposed a VAT some of the president’s allies have floated the idea. The president also recently told CNBC he was not taking the idea of a VAT off the table.

The letter’s signatories include Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio; Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va.; Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., the House Republican Conference chairman; and Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., the letter’s primary author. Pitts’ office anticipates dozens of additional signatures by the time it sends the letter this week.

“In a depressed economy, the number one priority of government should be to stimulate job growth,” they write in their letter to Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, the debt commission co-chairmen. “With unemployment at nearly 10 percent, Americans cannot afford the burden of a new job-killing tax.”

In Greece, the government owns large chunks of the economy and imposes crushing regulations on businesses that keep costs high and stagnate growth. Roughly 40 percent of Greece’s 4.4 million workforce has government jobs, according to the CIA World Fact Book. A recent USA Today report found that Greece’s bill for its public-sector wages doubled in the past six years.

The lower interest rates that followed Greece’s 2001 adoption of the Euro allowed it to heavily borrow from abroad to fund what one Greek observer calls “the last Soviet-style economy in Europe.”

Amid this binge of spending, Greece’s budget deficit hovered at around 5 percent of its gross domestic product between 2001 and 2008, but it shot up to 13.6 percent in 2009.

All of this has combined to give Greece high debt and a stagnant economy, requiring the European Union to recently agree on a $1 trillion bailout package for the struggling nation.

“The VAT did not save Greece,” the members write. “These deficits grew in spite of Greece’s 19-percent VAT rate. The result of increased government spending and taxation in Greece has been a consistently high unemployment rate of nearly 10 percent and a bankrupt government.”

Many European governments promised their citizens lower income-tax burdens in exchange for the imposing a VAT, but Pitts told Newsmax they only received massive governmental growth and stagnant economic growth in return.

“European nations are struggling with their budget deficits just as much as the U.S. is doing, and the problem is we need to address spending,” Pitts said. “If you are going to spend more, you are going to have to tax more.”

Supporters defend the tax as a way to generate large amounts of revenue, but Pitts and others counter that it only accelerates government spending.

Unlike state sales taxes, VATs are not immediately apparent to consumers because manufacturers pass them along in the form of higher prices that do not show up at the cash register.

“Unfortunately, America is making the same mistake that countries like Greece made,” the GOP leaders’ letter says. “In the heart of a debt crisis, Congress passed yet another entitlement program with no way to pay for it, and government spending continues to grow at alarming rates. Our national debt grew from $9 trillion to $12 trillion in 2008.”

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO), using Obama administration numbers, projects that interest payments on the national debt could top 10 percent of all revenue in 2018 and 20 percent in 2020. Under more adverse CBO projections, Moody’s projects that debt payments could hit 22.4 percent of revenue in 2013.

“We can’t keep encouraging the growth of government without discouraging economic growth,” Pitts said. “This is a product of increasing taxes and debt; we don’t need to be copying the European model.”

The debt commission should prioritize spending reductions and consider all options because it is always possible to find waste, Pitts told Newsmax.

Instead of looking at the Greek model as a cautionary tale, the Obama administration has chosen to emulate its practices, while ignoring their downside, said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

“The value-added tax is a French word for big government,” Norquist said. “Right now, the policies that Obama is following are very much like Carter’s that will lead to inflation.”

Norquist believes the debt commission should focus on the Obama administration’s additional spending as a starting place in the quest for spending cuts. This includes the unspent stimulus money, healthcare spending, and the $1 trillion in discretionary spending in the budget.

He also favors divesting certain federal programs to the states, like was done with welfare, and funding them with block grants, which he believes would cost taxpayers less in the long run.

The progressive America-haters were so let down this past week when authorities revealed that the bomber in the failed NYC bomb plot was yet another unibrowed Muslim male between the ages of 18-35. That revelation absolutely ruined their Tuesday and constituted massive movie and cable news re-writes nationwide.

Matter of fact, after the disclosure that Felicia Shazaam was the culprit (or whatever the heck his name is), TMZ.com reported that the ever-fattening Bob Beckel was heard cussin’ all the way over in Phoenix, but no one understood what he was whining about because nobody speaks English in Phoenix anymore. (Cinco de Mayo, Julio? How’s about Cinco de Do-Si-Do back to Meh-hee-co if you are ill-legal-lo? Comprende?)

Michelle Malkin

Yep, the America-loathing lefties were so disappointed that the person who tried to kill thousands of folks in Times Square last week wasn’t their hard-worked, new fangled—although fictitious—boogey man (i.e. the forty-year-old white dude) but was rather another adherent to the “religion of peace”—or is that pieces? The NYPD knew all along that it wasn’t a white dude because when they got into the SUV they immediately noticed that the bass settings were set higher than the treble.

Ah, wah wah, lame stream wusses. Did reality once again spoil your eternal blame game of Pin the Tail on Steve Carell? That’s gotta hurt because you didn’t get to BBQ a dirty white boy … again. What a shame.

What’s weird with the progressive honkyphobes is that instead of being glad that a stack of New Yorkers and tourists didn’t have twisted metal and mortar blown through their vital organs at 1,800 feet per second, they’re ticked that a typical Tea Partier didn’t light the fuse and thereby fulfill their prophecies.

You’d think that the progressives would be happy that our citizens narrowly escaped death and that our minds were once again yanked out of the BS ditch of PC drivel and riveted to the reality that those who regularly attack us don’t hail from Kentucky but Karachi, but then again you would be attributing to the left something that they’re incapable of—namely an admission that they are wrong and that they have once again missed it. No, they’re in a hissy because life ain’t lining up with their liner notes. Darn reality.

Indeed, rather than being honest and saying, “okay, we’ve got to cut this ‘Mr. Rogers is automatically suspect in terror attacks,’ or somebody is going to get killed,” they instead get back on their white hobby horse and try to excuse the psycho Muslim by blaming his attempted mass murderous actions on the threat of being foreclosed on by Milburn Drysdale.

Oh well, this column is just pointing out what everyone who can still think freely already knows to be true: Progressives hate America and will always side against those who love this nation and that for which it stands. Personally, I’d like to thank them for their antipathy toward the USA because it’s sure making me a great living as they present an unending supply of stupid crap to talk about on my show and plenty of fodder for my weekly column.

In the meantime I’m going to go celebrate my 40-year-old whiteness. Yes, I am unashamed of the fact that I like Waylon & Willie’s music, think Jesus trumps Mohammed, have a job, say “okie dokey,” salute our flag, think Rosie is repulsive, and like hunting and fishing. And should I ever fall on hard times, I swear here and now that I won’t plot the bombing of a major city because I can’t pay my rent. But that’s just me … I’m a 40-year-old white guy.

OBAMA NATIONAL SECURITY POLICY: HOPE THEIR BOMBS DON'T WORK
May 5, 2010

It took Faisal Shahzad trying to set a car bomb in Times Square to get President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to finally use the word "terrorism." (And not referring to Tea Party activists!)

This is a major policy shift for a president who spent a month telling Americans not to "jump to conclusions" after Army doctor Nidal Malik Hasan reportedly jumped on a desk, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" and began shooting up Fort Hood.

After last weekend, now Obama is even threatening to pronounce it "Pack-i-stan" instead of "Pock-i-stahn." We know Obama is taking terrorism seriously because he took a break from his "Hope, Change & Chuckles" tour on the comedy circuit to denounce terrorists.

In a bit of macho posturing this week, Obama declared that -- contrary to the terrorists' wishes -- Americans "will not be terrorized, we will not cower in fear, we will not be intimidated."

First of all, having the Transportation Security Administration wanding infants, taking applesauce away from 93-year-old dementia patients, and forcing all Americans to produce their shoes, computers and containers with up to 3 ounces of liquid in Ziploc bags for special screening pretty much blows that "not intimidated" look Obama wants America to adopt.

"Intimidated"? How about "absolutely terrified"?

Second, it would be a little easier for the rest of us not to live in fear if the president's entire national security strategy didn't depend on average citizens happening to notice a smoldering SUV in Times Square or smoke coming from a fellow airline passenger's crotch.

But after the car bomber, the diaper bomber and the Fort Hood shooter, it has become increasingly clear that Obama's only national defense strategy is: Let's hope their bombs don't work!

If only Dr. Hasan's gun had jammed at Fort Hood, that could have been another huge foreign policy success for Obama.

The administration's fingers-crossed strategy is a follow-up to Obama's earlier and less successful "Let's Make Them Love Us!" plan.

In the past year, Obama has repeatedly apologized to Muslims for America's "mistakes."

He has apologized to Iran for President Eisenhower's taking out loon Mohammad Mossadegh, before Mossadegh turned a comparatively civilized country into a Third World hellhole. You know, like the Ayatollah has.

He has apologized to the entire Muslim world for the French and English colonizing them -- i.e. building them flush toilets.

He promised to shut down Guantanamo. And he ordered the mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to be tried in the same courthouse that tried Martha Stewart.

There was also Obama's 90-degree-bow tour of the East and Middle East. For his next visit, he plans to roll on his back and have his belly scratched like Fido.

Despite favorable reviews in The New York Times, none of this put an end to Islamic terrorism.

So now, I gather, our only strategy is to hope the terrorists' bombs keep fizzling.

There's no other line of defense. In the case of the Times Square car bomber, the Department of Homeland Security failed, the Immigration and Naturalization Service failed, the CIA failed and the TSA failed. (However, the Department of Alert T-Shirt Vendors came through with flying colors, as it always does.)

Only the New York Police Department, a New York street vendor and Shahzad's Rube Goldberg bomb (I do hope he's not offended by how Jewish that sounds -- Obama can apologize) prevented a major explosion in Times Square.

Even after the NYPD de-wired the smoking car bomb, produced enough information to identify the bomb-maker, and handed it all to federal law enforcement authorities tied up in a bow, the federal government's crack "no-fly" list failed to stop Shahzad from boarding a plane to Dubai.

To be fair, at Emirates Airlines, being on a "no-fly" list makes you eligible for pre-boarding.

Perhaps the Department of Homeland Security should consider creating a "Really, REALLY No-Fly" list.

Contrary to the wild excuses being made for the federal government on all the TV networks Monday night, it's now clear that this was not a wily plan of federal investigators to allow Shahzad to board the plane in order to nab his co-conspirators. It was a flub that nearly allowed Shahzad to escape.

Meanwhile, on that same Monday at JFK airport, approximately 100,000 passengers took off their shoes, coats, belts and sunglasses for airport security.

But the "highly trained federal force" The New York Times promised us on Oct. 28, 2001, when the paper demanded that airport security be federalized, failed to stop the only guy they needed to stop at JFK last Monday -- the one who planted a bomb in the middle of Times Square days earlier.

So why were 100,000 other passengers harassed and annoyed by the TSA?

The federal government didn't stop the diaper bomber from nearly detonating a bomb over Detroit. It didn't stop a guy on the "No Fly" list from boarding a plane and coming minutes away from getting out of the country.

If our only defense to terrorism is counting on alert civilians, how about not bothering them before they board airplanes, instead of harassing them with useless airport "security" procedures?

Both of the attempted bombers who sailed through airport security, I note, were young males of the Islamic faith. I wonder if we could develop a security plan based on that information?

And speaking of a "highly trained federal force," who's working at the INS these days? Who on earth made the decision to allow Shahzad the unparalleled privilege of becoming a U.S. citizen last year?

Our "Europeans Need Not Apply" immigration policies were absurd enough before 9/11. But after 19 foreign-born Muslims, legally admitted to the U.S., murdered 3,000 Americans in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania in a single day, couldn't we tighten up our admission policies toward people from countries still performing stonings and clitorectomies?

The NYPD can't be everyplace.
