LATINOS SHOULD BE MORE LIKE ASIANS (Perhaps that's asking too much)

This is an open letter to the Mexican and Hispanic population in Los Angeles.
I realize you were born into a Latino culture and have different values. My parents were Asian Americans and obviously so am I. However, there is a difference between being proud of your culture and being downright rude. In grade school through high school I was called a "chino" or "chinita" by other Mexicans. I let it roll off my back. Because those same people who laughed in my face now work as security guards, truck drivers or delivery men. While my Asian American friends were taking English or Calculus AP, you guys were sitting in your lowriders smoking weed. So who has the last laugh now? You made fun of our accents, the way we look and our "chinky" eyes. As you may be aware by now, Asian Americans are the doctors, lawyers, engineers and computer professionals in our society. We live in white suburbs and speak perfect unaccented English. Asians line the halls of top Ivy League colleges. So don't be angry if an Asian American grocer owns a liquor store in your neighborhood or an Asian family has an Mexican gardener. Don't play the blame game. Maybe the feeling you should have is SHAME. It's absurdly simple. We work our ass off and achieved the American dream because we ASSIMILATED. We are proud of our Asian roots but also proud of being Americans. This great country gave us freedom and opportunity and we went for it. Perhaps your people should do the same.
