[07:38] did he make any sales? [07:38] gavino: Well, what do you want? Do you want to be successful? [07:38] yes [07:38

[07:38] did he make any sales?
[07:38] gavino: Well, what do you want? Do you want to be successful?
[07:38] yes
[07:38] gavino: He's loaded now, so yes. Quite a lot.
[07:38] no shit?
[07:39] what house with computer controlled lights n heating n doors?
[07:39] gavino: Well, try to make a plan, understand what you want to do more specific than "I want to be successful". Try to work towards that, fail as everyone does and find a way to improve. Keep doing it.
[07:39] gavino: yeah, pretty much. No idea who would pay for it.
[07:39] My problem is many directions seem good
[07:40] for example lisp haskell forth
[07:40] which one?
[07:40] learn openbsd for routing
[07:40] or learn c
[07:40] gavino: Well, those are just tools, try to imagine the complete product instead.
[07:40] hmmm
[07:40] You'll find nothing in openbsd for routing that you can't find in freebsd, really.
[07:41] what about the openbgp and ospf etc
[07:41] gavino: All those things are fine if you want to be a worker, but can you really be successful and a worker at the same time?
[07:41] no
[07:41] thats what is realy idsturing me
[07:41] gavino: they're cool as hell, but you can run the in freebsd as well
[07:41] oh ok
[07:42] My cousin went to work for a local chem company, right out of HS.. 6mo in, their network sysadmin ragequit.. my cuz said "gfive me 2 weeks, ill prove i can handle it" that was in 94.. now, he works for a NASA subcontractor, in Huntsville, Sr Systems Engineer.. the company paid for his college degree, which he earned -after- he started work at the nasa sub... lucky bastard lol
[07:42] break19: nice! ;D
[07:42] see I am bad at being ncie to people
[07:42] I tend to want to control everything
[07:42] so I never "got in" with anyone
[07:42] and moved up
[07:42] this is bad
[07:43] gavino: All those things are fine if you want to be a worker, but can you really be successful and a worker at the same time?
[07:43] this is the kernel of it
[07:43] to be rich you must create something
[07:43] and the have people do various aspects of it
[07:43] but you own it
[07:43] chrisphonk: he's the guy that opened my eyes first to linux, then bsd.
[07:43] gavino: Pretty much, yes. Well, work on your people skills? There are hardly any things you can change and/or improve.
[07:44] break19: It kind of feels like less and less people get breaks like that, however. Still, guy was lucky and obviously good at what he was doing.
[07:44] did you ever ask your boss how he did it?
[07:45] why do you call him a bastard? was he mean?
[07:45] gavino: Nah, he's a pretty swell guy ;D Well, I have talked to him in parts about it, but the real point is seeing something you can improve, and do it.
[07:45] oh I see that nonstop
[07:46] I get inspired when I see such messes as many places are when I come in
[07:46] I am like wow
[07:46] how did they get all this $$
[07:46] and be like this
[07:46] gavino: Well, try to work on those things, see them as a final product, what you need to make that happen.
[07:46] so there is possiblity to maek $$ for me
[07:46] final product eh?
[07:46] liek i think craigslist would be easy to copy
[07:47] gavino: a final product can be something. For him, it was ADSL at the same speeds, but cheaper. Simple.
[07:47] and to make such that you can have a little shopping cart
[07:47] and send 1 email
[07:47] instead of doing say 20 captchas
[07:48] gavino: Well, that could be an idea! Try to think about why people would use your service instead of another. See how much cost and commitment it requires.
