Ashley Qualls is no longer a stranger to online marketing. At the early age of 17 Ashley is poised to retire just about whenever she chooses. You see Ashley runs Whateverlife.com which creates MySpace layouts for girls. Like other layout sites she gives away her templates at no cost…yup, thats right, free. Her revenue comes from advertising firms such as ValueClick Media and Google Adsense.
She’s been offered $1.5 million from a firm plus a car of her choice, yet Ashley said no thanks.
Where the story makes a turn for the worse is when our government, in this case the Detroit Wayne County Probate Court, told Ashley she’s not “fit” to manage her own finances. To top it off, her parents are not allowed to manage her finances either. What world do we live in when a judge declares your parents unfit to oversee your assets. We’re not talking parents that have a child tv star on their hands that dwindle money away. We’re talking about an internet entrepreneur that attracts over 7 million individuals to her site with 60 million page views. This is an individual that built a business from scratch, not a child prodigy thrown onto a stage at a beauty contest by her parents. The Detroit Court wants to make sure those assets from all the revenue Ashley makes is not “mismanaged”. Isn’t it a bit ironic that we’re bailing out the government for their mistakes yet they won’t allow this millionaire to touch the money she’s made?
If Ashley wants to hire some developers she has to ask her court appointed conservator for funds. So what does Ashley do? She hires a lawyer and files to emancipate herself as an adult at an early age.
Ashley’s dropped out of school to focus full time on her online business. Her site currently rakes in around $70k per month. What was your salary this month?
