UPDATE 7/23/2010, 3:00AM: MSNBC reports that Shirley Sherrod and her husband sued the government over their farm in Georgia in a lawsuit involving other Black farmers prior to Sherrod getting the government job with the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).

In additional news, Sherrod said in an interview that she will likely sue Andrew Breitbart but admits she doesn't know much about law. She said Breitbart came at her - not the NAACP - with that edited video tape, and she feels she should get back at him by suing. While the lawsuit involved President Barack Obama approving $1.25 billion in a settlement, it was never approved by the Senate. This new development in the story is being looked at without the U.S. Government giving answers to the press.

UPDATE: Thursday morning, Andrew Breitbart accused the Obama administration and their allies of orchestrating the entire Shirley Breitbart video escapade to 'bring him down.' While the White House says Breitbart set them up, he is saying that he was set up by the liberal camp, according to Politic with whom he spoke.

Also, midday, President Obama called Shirley Sherrod and spoke to her for seven minutes expressing his regret surrounding the situation she's been through this past week within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It was yesterday that Sherrod said she didn't want an apology from Obama, but said she would like to talk to him about her perspective on her job in Georgia. Source: ABC-news

the past 24 hours or so, many have heard the name Andrew Breitbart. Who is he, other than the blogger involved with the release of the edited, misleading Shirley Sherrod video that sent racism into a tailspin in the past two days?

For starters, once again, Andrew Breitbart has managed to land in controversial political headlines, head first. This time, it was by spotlighting an edited video featuring a Department of Agriculture employee, Shirley Sherrod. By now, most everyone knows that the abbreviated video, as released by Breitbart, made Sherrod appear to be a racist, while the unedited video that followed indicates that she is not racist at all. It’s debatable as to whether she had traces of racism in her being over two decades ago before working for the Department of Agriculture, but she is definitely not coming across as a racist in her position in 2010.

As in the past, Breitbart has gone to great extremes to make the ‘left’ fall on its face. In this incident, he set them up by releasing the edited video, predictably watching them overact too quickly, then watching them apologize and doing an about-face in regard to their over-reaction.

Breitbart is not new to online scandals. Prior to this week’s release of the Sherrod video causing the racial stir across the country, he was the source behind the ACORN sex scandal video. In that videoed incident, representatives of ACORN were set up to tell a guy how to claim underage prostitutes as dependents for tax purposes. This was Breitbart’s attention-getter on the day he unveiled BigGovernment.com, one of his five right-wing websites.

When U.S. Representatives John Lewis, Andre Carson, and Emanuel Cleaver accused Tea Party members of calling racial slurs at them, including the ‘N’-word, as they walked by a group of protesters outside the U.S. Capitol on March 20, 2010, Breitbart was in the crowd. That time, he challenged anyone to produce a video proving that the Tea Party protesters had spoken as they had been accused. He even offered a hefty reward to anyone who could produce proof. The proof never came, and again, Breitbart made the ‘left’ look questionable, if not worse, by making them look like outright liars.

The question is: regardless of the work he’s done in the past to make the ‘left’ appear bad, how much credibility has he lost by committing errors with the Shirley Sherrod scandal? Only time will tell. At the moment, he’s flying high with appearances across the networks in which he’s able to defend himself, blast the ‘left,’ and promote, promote, promote.

Commentary: In his effort to embarrass the White House this time, he may have been the one who lost – not everything, but a great deal of credibility. How dangerous is he?

About Andrew Breitbart: Besides the above-mentioned BigGovernment.com website, a group blog about politics and government, Breitbart also has Breitbart.com which is a news site, Breitbart.tv which is a video news site, Big Hollywood which is a group blog about Hollywood, movies, and television, and finally, Big Journalism which is a group blog about journalism and keeping mainstream media honest. The forty-one year old from California is best-known for editing Matt Drudge’s Drudge Report. He has also been a researcher for Arianna Huffington’s Huffington Post and a commentator for the Washington Times.

In his own words, Breitbart says he is fighting back to years and years and years of cultural and political leftism – a segment of society which he says needs to sit down a shut up.

The story that just keeps giving. Now we learn that Shirley Sherrod has history of her own with the government? She sued the government just before she got a government job? Conflict of Interest? Foul Play?

Breitbart is fighting the good fight....and fighting it well.

His unedited tape makes Sherrod look worse than the Edited one shown widely. She says "his own kind"..???? Switch races and the white official would be fried for years. Sherrod is an obvious Racist who abused her position for YEARS. It is the Farmers who she dealt with who should be considering lawsuits against her and the Dept of Ag.

I remember though on the Brietbart blogs BEFORE the election, ones comments would get deleted if the word Socialism was used. Not the "F" word but socialist.

Maybe Andrew now sees what others were trying to sound out BEFORE this insanity all got elected.

Apologies accepted Andrew....all is forgiven.

Yes, that is indeed quite the retort. Why not just suck it up and admit that the whole asterisk thing is a completely lame thing to do and that it was a lapse in judgment on your part?

Yes, Carver!!! It is great...so embarrassing to them. Gotta love it. I can't get a job, and these Fed employees are making buku bucks. What the Hell is going on with this Country? The whole thing is getting embarrassing....

Zan says:
Yes, Carolb57! But, he instigated it...and yes, the NAACP threw her under the bus even before they looked into it, and worse yet, Obama and his Admin did not even look into the facts. The whole initial video was suspect from the get-go... TOO MANY PEOPLE ADDICTED TO TOO MANY TECH DEVICES AND NOT USING THEIR OWN MINDS.... I hope this guy is brought into court for his own deliberate self-serving media attention and putting Shirley Sherrod thru this nightmare.

Zan says:
This person is just another attention whore who needs to get out of the gene pool. He has had his 15 minutes; we are done. Just the fact he is affiliated with the Tea Party Morons should be enough for anyone to know where he is coming from. Let's not "celebrate" this idiot any longer.
July 22, 9:25 PM
carolb57 says:
Breitbart was set up? Yeah sure, President Obama himself delivered an edited tape of a speech Shirley Sherrod gave to the NAACP back in March and told him to put it on his website so Breitbart would have ammunition against the NAACP for passing a resolution asking the Tea Party to get rid of the racists in their group, right? Makes sense to me! Do any of you Breitbart fans have even a high school diploma?
July 22, 7:33 PM
Carver says:
This story is great. The USDA gets exposed, the White House gets exposed. so does the NAACP, Fox news, Breitbart and all of the media. We don't often get a story that makes so many high level people look so bad so fast.

carolb57 says:
Since Breitbart admits to being in the crowd when the "N" word was shouted at several black Congressmen, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is Breitbart himself who did the shouting! He is despicable!!!!!
July 22, 6:44 PM
Shea says:
Whole thing is amazing! I think Breitbart was set up but how could the NAACP not know who she was and what she had said? She had spoken at one of their events. Clearly they didn't listen to her. And shame on Obama's group for jumping to conclusions, again!

Elaine says:
I applaud you and the work you have done to expose the leftist liberals and their plots. I thank God for such people as you and Glenn Beck for having the courage to stand up to the corruption and takeover of our country. I agree that this Sherrod story was a plot to try to put you and Fox out of business. Please continue to do your work and I pray for your safety.

Robert says:
The NAACP is racist by it's very existence, just as the National Negro College Fund & the BET Network is, or any other organization who caters to only the Blacks in our society. Brietbart's video showed the NAACP for what they are. Racists! He also showed what a bunch of immature whiners we have in the WH. Bravo Andrew! Bravo!

JSS says:
Shirley Sherrod is a true American hero – a woman whose choices and values, whose ability to rise above anger (particularly the scars left by her father’s murder), whose poise and integrity, we can all admire. I will refrain from saying what Breitbart is for trying to pass off his hate-mongering as some form of journalism.

Rachi says:
Andrew Brietbart and all people like him on both sides of the spectrem deserve nothing less than to be gangraped in prison and then burried to there neck in cement with a water hose shoved down there throat, the hose should be turned on full blast so his stomach explodes and he dies an aganizing death. He is a traitor to the Country he "loves" by stirring up B.S.
July 22, 5:37 PM
chowder says:
If you really examine what MsShirley said there are indeed a few questionable comments. "His kind" for example. Also, the people in the crowd react in an ugly manner before she completes her point. It is unfortunate that she lost her job however she is doing a great job with her 15 minutes. In the end this may be the best thing that ever happened to her. Maybe she will go on tour with Kathy Griffin now that Levi went home.
Breitbart used a common tactic of the left. Ask Limbaugh about the dozens of times it has happened to him. Now the left knows how it FEELS.
July 22, 2:51 PM
George says:
Andrew Breitbart presented edited false information and the government of the country reacted without checking the facts. Man ya'll live in a messed up country with its over hyped media. You react without even bothering to check. As for this Andrew person he is obviously a person with no morals like Paris Hilton who just wants the money that comes with the spotlight. Talk about an individual whos existence advocates violence against him.
