There is no such thing as state socialism.

Q According to Wikipedia, China is the world's fastest-growing major economy, with growth rates averaging 10% over the past 30 years. China is also the largest exporter and second largest importer of goods in the world. It's unemployment is at 4.2%. China is the largest creditor nation in the world and owns approximately 20.8% of all foreign-owned US Treasury securities. China could become the world's largest economy (by nominal GDP) sometime as early as 2020. The Economist has said "China’s ability to make huge strategic investments, even to the point of creating entire new industries, puts private companies at a severe disadvantage". I'm talking pure economy. No civil rights issues. Just purely economic merit. A There is no such thing as state socialism. In china capitalism is perhaps less shackled than in many areas of the USA. china is also undeveloped. they don't pay as many useless union people so called professors and so called lawyers and thus have more real production , if the usa let amrkets be free they would auto adjust to this and all would be waelthier . New Data Strip Obama's Health Law of Its Rationales Wednesday, 25 Jan 2012 09:59 AM

New Data Strip Obama's Health Law of Its Rationales Wednesday, 25 Jan 2012 09:59 AM By Betsy McCaughey Share: More . . . A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article in Share Data released last week by two federal agencies — the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) — stripped the Obama health law of its constitutional and economic justifications, like an emperor with no clothes. The new facts should seal a victory for the parties challenging the Obama health law in the coming U.S. Supreme Court showdown and ignite voter rage next November against the president who lied to get the law passed. The AHRQ report on who consumes healthcare shatters the Obama administration’s constitutional justification for compelling all Americans to buy insurance. The president’s legal team claims that all Americans consume healthcare, therefore all Americans are engaged in healthcare commerce, and consequently Congress can use its Commerce Clause power to compel them to pay for their care via insurance. Not so fast. The AHRQ report shows that half of Americans consume almost no healthcare. Fifty percent of the population needs so little healthcare that they accounted for only 2.9 percent of healthcare spending in 2009. Looking only at Americans under age 65, the percentage of nonconsumers is even higher. Most Americans don’t need much healthcare until they reach retirement age. People who are nonconsumers one year are likely to be nonconsumers the next. They are healthy. Previous AHRQ reports confirm that this is the case year after year. Why should a majority of the under-65 population be subject to a health insurance requirement when they consume little or no healthcare? That is the reasoning behind the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals decision last August to strike down the Obama health law’s mandatory insurance provision. Judges Frank Hull and Joel Dubina called the Obama administration’s claim that everyone needs healthcare “a convenient sleight of hand,” meaning a lie. This week’s AHRQ report gives the Supreme Court Justices solid evidence to uphold the 11th Circuit ruling. Judges Hull and Dubina said that the Obama health law forces healthy people to buy expensive health plans so that insurance companies can afford to provide unlimited coverage to people with chronic illnesses and pre-existing conditions. The mandate turns insurers into private tax collectors, collecting mandatory premiums from the healthy to pay for politically popular benefits for the sick. The startling AHRQ data confirm that “we the people” were bamboozled, but it’s not too late to act on this new information. New data from CMS uncover another big lie behind the campaign for Obamacare. To frighten the nation into passing the Affordable Care Act in 2010, the president falsely claimed that healthcare spending was “spiraling” and “skyrocketing.” He labeled it the domestic crisis of our time. Contrary to the president’s alarming words, healthcare spending was growing more slowly in 2009 and 2010 than at any other time in the last half century. A new report by CMS actuaries shows that spending inched up only 3.8 percent in 2009 and 3.9 percent the next year. The recession slowed spending somewhat, but another reason is that more employers and consumers switched to insurance plans with high co-pays and deductibles that encourage patients to think twice before going to the doctor or seeking elective surgery. This positive trend will likely end soon. Federal actuaries forecast health spending jumping a whopping 8.3 percent in 2014, the year most of the law takes effect, with annual increases thereafter averaging 6.2 percent until 2020. One reason is that people with private health plans will be compelled to prepay for more of their care with insurance, rather than opting for high deductibles and copays. The new law limits cost sharing, just the opposite of what’s needed to deter health consumption. Spending also will leap ahead because of the vast expansion of Medicaid. The Obama health law makes more people eligible and enriches benefits so that Medicaid spending will top $900 billion in 2020 (state and federal), up from $343 billion in the last year of the George W. Bush administration. Before Congress enacted the Obama health law, healthcare spending increases were at historic lows. If only Congress had demanded the facts, instead of falling for the president’s alarmist rhetoric.

RE-ELECT OBAMA: VOTE NEWT! January 25, 2012 ann coulter

RE-ELECT OBAMA: VOTE NEWT! January 25, 2012 To talk with Gingrich supporters is to enter a world where words have no meaning. They denounce Mitt Romney as a candidate being pushed on them by "the Establishment" -- with "the Establishment" defined as anyone who supports Romney or doesn't support Newt. Gingrich may have spent his entire life in Washington and be so much of an insider that, as Jon Stewart says, "when Washington gets its prostate checked, it tickles [Newt]," but he is deemed the rebellious outsider challenging "the Establishment" -- because, again, "the Establishment" is anyone who opposes Newt. This is the sort of circular reasoning one normally associates with Democrats, people whom small-town pharmacists refer to as "drug seekers" and Ron Paul supporters. Newtons claim Romney is a "moderate," and Gingrich the true conservative -- a feat that can be accomplished only by refusing to believe anything Romney says ... and also refusing to believe anything Gingrich says. -- Romney's one great "flip-flop" is on abortion. (I thought the reason we argued with people about abortion was to try to get them to "flip-flop" on this issue. Sometimes it works!) Nearly two decades ago, when Romney was trying to defeat champion desecrator of life Sen. Teddy Kennedy, he sought to remove abortion as a campaign issue by declaring that he, too, supported Roe v. Wade. (Nonetheless, Kennedy ran a campaign commercial against him featuring a Mormon woman complaining that Romney, as a Mormon elder, had pressured her not to have an abortion, but to give the child up for adoption. Are you getting the idea that Massachusetts is different from the rest of America, readers?) Romney changed his mind on abortion -- not when it was politically advantageous, but when it mattered. As governor of liberal, pro-choice Massachusetts, he vetoed an embryonic stem cell bill and "worked closely" with Massachusetts Citizens for Life. The president of MCL recently issued a statement saying that, "since being elected governor, Mitt Romney has had a consistent commitment to the culture of life." He didn't defend his changed position by saying he was a "historian," or denounce people who raised the switch as "fundamentally" dishonest asking "absurd" questions, or go back and forth and back and forth. He just said he changed his mind. Meanwhile, Gingrich, who has run for office only in a small, majority Republican, undoubtedly pro-life congressional district, lobbied President Bush to support embryonic stem cell research. -- Romney is now the only remaining candidate for president who opposes amnesty for illegals. (Ever since President Bush's amnesty plan cratered on the shoals of public opposition, no Republican will ever use the word "amnesty," despite wanting to keep illegals here -- just as Democrats refuse to say "abortion," while supporting every manner of destroying human life.) Romney supports E-Verify and a fence on the border. As governor he promoted English immersion programs for immigrants, signed an agreement with the federal government allowing state troopers to enforce federal immigration laws, and opposed efforts to give illegal immigrants in-state tuition or driver's licenses. At the same time, Romney says he'd like to staple a green card to the diploma of every immigrant here on a student visa who gets a higher degree in math or science. Gingrich supports importing a slave labor force from Mexico under a "guest worker" program and wants to create government "citizen review boards" to grant amnesty on a case-by-case basis (i.e. all at once) to illegal aliens. -- Romney supports entitlement reform along the lines of the Paul Ryan plan, as he has said plainly, but without histrionics, in the debates. Just last year, Gingrich went on "Meet the Press" and called Ryan's plan -- supported by nearly every House Republican -- "right-wing social engineering." He apologized for those remarks, then took back his apology, still later doubled down, calling the Ryan plan "suicide," and now -- currently, but it could change any minute -- Gingrich supports Ryan's entitlement reform efforts. For the latest updates on Newt's position on the Ryan plan, go to http//twitter.com/#whatcheapshotgrandstandymovewillworknow? -- As for crony capitalism, Romney made all his money in the private sector by his own diligence and talent -- even giving away all the money he inherited from his parents. He's never lived in Washington or traded on access to government officials. Meanwhile, without the federal government, Gingrich would be penniless. He has been in Washington since the '70s, first as a congressman, then becoming a rich man on the basis of having been a congressman. Most egregiously, he took $1.6 million to shill for Freddie Mac, one of the two institutions directly responsible for the housing crash that caused the financial collapse. (Or one of three, if you consider Barney Frank an institution.) If the tea party stands for anything, it stands in absolute opposition to government insiders shoring up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the very time those institutions were blowing up the economy. -- Romney could not be more forceful in saying he will issue a 50-state waiver to Obamacare his first day in office and then seek its formal repeal. Whether you like a state-wide insurance mandate or not, it's a world of difference when the federal government does it. Conservatives, having read the Constitution, ought to understand this. It was on account of the difference between state and federal powers that the Supreme Court overturned the federal Violence Against Women Act. The court was not endorsing rape, but reminding us that states make laws about rape, not Congress. To act as if Obamacare is the same thing as "Romneycare" is just a word game, on the order of acting like a "gun" has the same properties as a "gunny sack," or "fire" is the same thing as a "firefly." Romney supported the idea of other states doing something along the lines of his health care bill, but always opposed insurance mandates from the federal government (just as I oppose the federal government issuing general laws about rape, but support state laws against rape.) For those of you who still think Romneycare is the worst possible sin a Republican candidate could commit -- even worse than taking money from Freddie Mac as it destroyed the economy -- that doesn't help Gingrich: He supported Romneycare. (While we're on the subject, the nation's leading conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, helped draft Romneycare. Indeed, Bob Moffit, Heritage's senior fellow on health care issues, can be seen in the picture of the bill-signing ceremony, standing proudly behind Romney.) But Gingrich did more than support Romneycare. As former senator Rick Santorum has pointed out, Gingrich supported a FEDERAL individual mandate to purchase health insurance from 1993 until five minutes ago -- i.e., at least until a "Meet the Press" appearance just last May. Asked by Maria Bartiromo in the CNBC debate last November to explain what he would do to fix health care, Newt attacked the question as "absurd" and said he would need a "several-hour period" to answer it. In a world where words have meaning, Mitt Romney is not the "moderate" in this race. He is the most conservative candidate still standing, with the possible exception of Rick Santorum, who is bad on illegal immigration. (Santorum voted in the Senate against even the voluntary use of E-Verify by employers, which means he doesn't want to do anything about illegal immigration at all.) Romney is "moderate" only in demeanor -- which is just another word game. His positions are more conservative than Gingrich's, but he doesn't scare people like Gingrich does. Ronald Reagan and Jesse Helms were moderate in demeanor, too. No one would call them political moderates. Romney is the most electable candidate not only because it will be nearly impossible for the media to demonize this self-made Mormon square, devoted to his wife and church, but precisely because he is the most conservative candidate. Conservatism is an electable quality. Hotheaded arrogance is neither conservative nor attractive to voters.

Obama's State of Tax Distortions Wednesday, 25 Jan 2012 11:47 AM By Grover Norquist

Obama's State of Tax Distortions Wednesday, 25 Jan 2012 11:47 AM By Grover Norquist Share: More . . . A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article in Share From the ATR website. Americans for Tax Reform released the following response to President Obama’s State of the Union address: Obama Claim: "Right now, companies get tax breaks for moving jobs and profits overseas. Meanwhile, companies that choose to stay in America get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. It makes no sense, and everyone knows it." Reality: Companies don't get tax breaks for moving anything overseas. Rather, they face double taxation when they try to bring foreign-earned profits back here to America. America is one of the only countries in the world which seeks to tax income coming back home from overseas. A U.S. company earning a profit in France first pays French corporate income tax. If they leave that money there, they never pay taxes again. But if they want to bring that money back home to create jobs, invest in new plant and equipment, or shore up pension plans, they have to pay a second layer of tax to the IRS. Obama Claim: "From now on, every multinational company should have to pay a basic minimum tax." Reality: Large companies have very high average effective tax rates. Some liberal groups have cooked the books to make it look otherwise. For example, the most common liberal numbers put U.S. taxes paid in the numerator, but worldwide global profits in the denominator. Of course it looks artificially small. We have the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world (nearly 40 percent when state corporate income taxes are included). Obama Claim: "Expand tax relief to small businesses that are raising wages and creating good jobs." Reality: Is this why the president wants to raise the top two individual tax rates, which is the tax rate paid by the majority of small business profits? Obama Claim: "We have subsidized oil companies for a century. That’s long enough. It’s time to end the taxpayer giveaways to an industry that’s rarely been more profitable, and double-down on a clean energy industry that’s never been more promising. Pass clean energy tax credits and create these jobs." Reality: An employer keeping their own money is not a subsidy. Energy companies that manufacture oil don't receive any welfare benefits from the federal government. Obama Claim: "Right now, our most immediate priority is stopping a tax hike on 160 million working Americans while the recovery is still fragile. People cannot afford losing $40 out of each paycheck this year. There are plenty of ways to get this done. So let’s agree right here, right now: No side issues. No drama. Pass the payroll tax cut without delay." Reality: The U.S. House passed a one-year extension of the payroll tax holiday in December. The Senate did not. The President's complaint should not be directed anywhere but at Harry Reid. Obama Claim: "Right now, we’re poised to spend nearly $1 trillion more on what was supposed to be a temporary tax break for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans." Reality: Congress only put a time limit on the 2001 and 2003 tax relief because of Senate Democrat filibustering. These tax rates have been in place for more than a decade, and extended several times by Congresses controlled by Republicans, Democrats, and split control. President Obama himself signed an extension of these tax rates just one year ago. Obama Claim: "Right now, because of loopholes and shelters in the tax code, a quarter of all millionaires pay lower tax rates than millions of middle-class households. Right now, Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate than his secretary." Reality: Obama doesn't mention how capital gains and dividend taxes (which drive down average tax rates for the households Obama is referring to) are a second layer of tax on corporate profits. The real capital gains and dividends rate is closer to 45 percent. Second, you can't raise taxes on "the rich" without also raising the tax rate assessed on the majority of small employer profits and on the businesses employing the majority of small business employees. Third, it's unfair to count both the employer and the employee "half" of Social Security tax payments when comparing Warren Buffett to his secretary — half is notionally paid by the employer, and doesn't directly reduce employee paychecks in the near term; also, there is a Social Security benefit in the future that should be considered. Obama Claim: "Do we want to keep these tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans? Or do we want to keep our investments in everything else — like education and medical research; a strong military and care for our veterans? Because if we’re serious about paying down our debt, we can’t do both." Reality: According to Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute, this isn't true. You can prevent all scheduled tax hikes from happening, grow spending at 2 percent annually, and still balance the budget after 10 years. Obama Claim: "Tax reform should follow the Buffett rule: If you make more than $1 million a year, you should not pay less than 30 percent in taxes." Reality: Capital gains and dividends already face a tax rate of 45 percent when properly understood as the second layer of the 35 percent corporate income tax rate. Obama Claim: "And my Republican friend Tom Coburn is right: Washington should stop subsidizing millionaires. In fact, if you’re earning a million dollars a year, you shouldn’t get special tax subsidies or deductions." Reality: Senator Coburn probably does want to see a net tax hike on small employers, but that doesn't mean they are getting a subsidy. They are keeping their own money. Obama Claim: "If you make under $250,000 a year, like 98 percent of American families, your taxes shouldn’t go up. You’re the ones struggling with rising costs and stagnant wages. You’re the ones who need relief." Reality: President Obama made a "firm pledge" not to raise "any form" of taxes on families making less than $250,000 when running for President in 2008. Yet 16 days into his administration, he raised taxes on smokers, who have an average income of about $30,000 per year. Then, he raised seven more taxes on these families as part of his jobs-killing Obamacare law. Obama Claim: "We don’t begrudge financial success in this country. We admire it. When Americans talk about folks like me paying my fair share of taxes, it’s not because they envy the rich. It’s because they understand that when I get tax breaks I don’t need and the country can’t afford, it either adds to the deficit, or somebody else has to make up the difference . . ." Reality: If President Obama doesn't want to claim deductions, he doesn't have to. If he or Mr. Buffett want to pay more in taxes, they can send a check to the Treasury today. They should also support the "Buffett Rule Act," sponsored by Congressman Steve Scalise, R-La., and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D.

“Every country in the world that has tried to use government power, as Obama puts it, has made people poorer, has made the politicians more powerful, and has ended up with corruption,” Gingrich says. “I think it is exactly the wrong direction.”

Gingrich: Obama Tax Plan Will Bring Economic Destruction Wednesday, 25 Jan 2012 04:31 PM By Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter Share: More . . . A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article in Share 1 Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview that President Obama’s call for a 30 percent tax on millionaires is the “most destructive anti-jobs proposal by a president in my lifetime.” The former House speaker also says that the Hugo Chavez regime in Venezuela is a “direct threat to the United States” and we should find a way to “get rid of it.” Gingrich spoke with Newsmax.TV after delivering an address at Florida International University on Wednesday. He was asked about Obama’s assertion in Tuesday night’s State of the Union address that he would use government power to bridge the gap between the rich and everyone else. “Every country in the world that has tried to use government power, as Obama puts it, has made people poorer, has made the politicians more powerful, and has ended up with corruption,” Gingrich says. “I think it is exactly the wrong direction.” Obama also called on the wealthy to pay more taxes — specifically for people making more than $1 million a year to pay at least 30 percent in taxes. “If the president is serious about a 30 percent minimum tax, he is doubling the capital gains tax,” Gingrich says. “If you double the capital gains tax you’re going to drive down the stock market, which is going to hurt every pension fund in the country. Everyone with a 401(k) is going to lose money. Capital is going to flee the U.S. It is probably the most anti-jobs single idea he has come up with. “So my hunch is the White House will back off and say they didn’t quite mean it. But if they mean it, it is the most destructive anti-jobs proposal by a president in my lifetime.” Gingrich discusses his vow to bring a peaceful end to the Castro regime in Cuba. “I’d use the same tools and the same strategy that Pope John Paul II, President Ronald Reagan, and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher used to defeat the Soviet Empire. I’d bring to bear popular pressure, information technology, covert organizations, subsidies to people who want to be free, psychological campaigns against those who are in power, and I would do everything I could to maximize the ability of the Cuban people to free themselves.” Referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Latin America and the threat posed by a new alliance between Iran, Venezuela and Cuba, Gingrich tells Newsmax: “I think this is the greatest direct challenge to the Monroe Doctrine in 190 years, and I think we have to confront it head on. “We have to indicate that in the long run the Chavez regime is a direct threat to the United States and it’s in our interest to find a way to get rid of it.” Recent polls have shown that Gingrich is now leading other GOP candidates for the presidential nomination. He says he thinks his campaign is resonating with the voters because “they want a conservative with optimistic solutions who believes that if you unleash the American people, we can rebuild the country we love. “I think that they are looking for somebody who has the clarity and the toughness to debate Obama head on. I think they increasingly believe I can do that.” Newsmax has revealed that Gingrich’s GOP opponent Mitt Romney’s campaign in Florida is being run by political aides who worked for then-Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who abandoned the Republican Party to become an independent. Commenting on the Romney-Crist link, Gingrich says: “I think it’s strange. I’m honored that we have Marco Rubio’s former campaign manager Joe Mallea running our campaign. He’s a solid conservative. I like to be surrounded by solid conservatives. “It’s a little bit like Governor Romney’s alliance with [former White House advisor and New Hampshire Gov. John] Sununu, who helped convince President [George H.W.] Bush to break his no new taxes pledge and raise taxes. You have to wonder to what extent that tells you about the comfort that Romney has with raising taxes.”

end the fed bernanke try for treason

Bernanke says Fed pondering further stimulus By Pedro da Costa and Mark Felsenthal | Reuters – 5 hrs ago WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Wednesday the central bank was ready to offer the economy additional stimulus after it announced it would likely keep interest rates near zero until at least late 2014. The Fed also took the historic step of adopting an explicit inflation target, though Bernanke took pains to stress that officials would be flexible about reining in price growth when unemployment was too high. The late 2014 timeframe for the first rate hike was considerably later than investors had expected and some 18 months later than the Fed had suggested last year, and the announcement prompted a rally in U.S. government bonds. Speaking at a news conference after a two-day policy meeting, Bernanke was cautious about recent improvements in the U.S. economy, and he left the door open to further Fed bond purchases. "I don't think we're ready to declare that we've entered a new, stronger phase at this point," Bernanke said. "If the situation continues with inflation below target and unemployment declining at a rate which is very, very slow, then ... the logic of our framework says we should be looking for ways to do more." In response to the deepest recession in generations, the Fed slashed the overnight federal funds rate to near zero in December 2008. It has also more than tripled the size of its balance sheet to around $2.9 trillion through two separate bond purchase programs. The policy is credited with preventing an even more devastating downturn, but it has been insufficient to bring unemployment down to levels considered normal during good economic times. Many Fed watchers expected a further round of bond buying, likely focusing on mortgage debt. RANGE OF VIEWS Fed officials agreed that a goal of 2 percent inflation would be in keeping with their congressional mandate of price stability. By their favorite measure, core inflation is running at about 1.7 percent. They declined to announce a target for unemployment, saying the job market was often influenced by forces beyond their control. In another key shift touted as part of an effort toward greater transparency, the Fed for the first time published policymakers' projections for the appropriate path of the benchmark overnight federal funds rate. These showed a wide range of views, from the three of 17 policymakers who said they thought rates should rise this year to two who want to hold off on any increase until 2016. Still, the biggest concentration of estimates - five of 17 - was around 2014. The new, later expiration date for the Fed's zero rate policy pushed stock and gold prices higher, and dragged the dollar lower. In its announcement, the Fed repeated its view that the economy faced "significant downside risks" - an expression that has become code for the threat Europe's debt crisis poses to the United States. In economic forecasts accompanying the rate projections, the Fed pointed to somewhat weaker economic growth this year and next, compared with estimates published in November. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate, which hit 8.5 percent in December, was seen coming down only slowly. Economic conditions "are likely to warrant exceptionally low levels for the federal funds rate at least through late 2014," the central bank said. After every previous policy meeting dating to August, the Fed had said rates were not likely to rise until mid-2013. "Make no mistake, with changing 2013 to 'at least through late 2014' this drives home one important fact: the Fed is scared," said Tom Porcelli, chief U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets in New York. Richmond Federal Reserve Bank President Jeffrey Lacker, an inflation hawk who rotated into a voting panel seat this year, dissented against the policy decision, preferring to omit the late-2014 date from the Fed's post-meeting statement. INFLATION NOT A WORRY The central bank appeared more sanguine on inflation than it had after its last meeting in December, saying prices were likely to run close to or just below its target. The statement dropped a reference to the Fed monitoring inflation and inflation expectations. Aside from the 2014 rate pledge, the statement hewed closely to the Fed's last policy pronouncement in mid-December. It described the unemployment rate as still elevated and, in a slight shift, acknowledged a slowing in business investment. "I think what they are seeing is that the rate of growth is not sufficient to bring down the unemployment rate," said Brian Dolan, chief strategist at FOREX.com in Bedminster, New Jersey. In December, the U.S. jobless rate stood at 8.5 percent, and some 13 million Americans were still actively looking for work but could not find it. While forecasters expect the U.S. economy grew at a 3 percent annual rate in the last three months of 2011, they look for growth of just around 2 percent this year. (AP) — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer came to greet President Barack Obama upon his arrival outside Phoenix Wednesday. What she got was a critique. Of her book. The two leaders could be seen engaged in an intense conversation at the base of Air Force One's steps. Both could be seen smiling, but speaking at the same time. Asked moments later what the conversation was about, Brewer, a Republican, said: "He was a little disturbed about my book." Brewer recently published a book, "Scorpions for Breakfast," something of a memoir of her years growing up and defends her signing of Arizona's controversial law cracking down on illegal immigrants, which Obama opposes. Obama was objecting to Brewer's description of a meeting he and Brewer had at the White House, where she described Obama as lecturing her. In an interview in November Brewer described two tense meetings. The first took place before his commencement address at Arizona State University. "He did blow me off at ASU," she said in the television interview in November. She also described meeting the president at the White House in 2010 to talk about immigration. "I felt a little bit like I was being lectured to, and I was a little kid in a classroom, if you will, and he was this wise professor and I was this little kid, and this little kid knows what the problem is and I felt minimized to say the least." On the tarmac Wednesday, Brewer handed Obama an envelope with a handwritten invitation to return to Arizona to meet her for lunch and to join her for a visit to the border. "I said to him, you know, I have always respected the office of the president and that the book is what the book is," she told reporters Wednesday. She said Obama complained that she described him as not treating her cordially. "I said that I was sorry that he felt that way. Anyway, we're glad he's here, and we'll regroup." A White House official said Brewer handed Obama a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her. The official said Obama told her he would be glad to meet with her again. The official said Obama did note that after their last meeting, which the official described as a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe a private conversation between the president and the governor.

Boehner: Obama approved Solyndra, but not Keystone by Joel Gehrke Commentary Staff Writer

Boehner: Obama approved Solyndra, but not Keystone by Joel Gehrke Commentary Staff Writer House Speaker John Boehner said that President Obama has put politics ahead of job creation, and faulted the president for approving the high-risk Solyndra loan guarantee, but then denying a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline to be built. "President Obama expedited approval of the Solyndra loan project, but won't approve a project that's been under review for over three years," House Speaker John Boehner said in a press conference today on Obama's decision not to grant a permit for the Keystone pipeline. He declared that "President Obama is destroying tens of thousands of American jobs and shipping American energy security to the Chinese." He argued that "the President is selling out American jobs for politics," and declared that Obama's promise to work to create jobs "was broken" today. President Obama said he was "disappointed" in the Republicans for forcing a Keystone decision ahead of the environmental studies timetable. "The rushed and arbitrary deadline insisted on by Congressional Republicans prevented a full assessment of the pipeline’s impact, especially the health and safety of the American people, as well as our environment," Obama said in his statement on the Keystone rejection. "I’m disappointed that Republicans in Congress forced this decision, but it does not change my Administration’s commitment to American-made energy that creates jobs and reduces our dependence on oil."

Rick Scott is fucking AWESOME end non science degree funding HELL YEAH!! communists bitch n whine!! degree u can get job with !

Rick Scott to Liberal Arts Majors: Drop Dead —By Adam Weinstein | Tue Oct. 11, 2011 6:15 AM PDT 287 rick scott Wikimedia Florida's unpopular tea party governor, Rick Scott, wants more of the state's youths to pick up college degrees... but only if the degrees are useful to corporations and don't teach students to question social norms. "You know what? They need to get education in areas where they can get jobs," Scott told a right-wing radio host Monday morning. He continued: "You know, we don't need a lot more anthropologists in the state. It's a great degree if people want to get it, but we don't need them here. I want to spend our dollars giving people science, technology, engineering, math degrees. That's what our kids need to focus all their time and attention on. Those type of degrees. So when they get out of school, they can get a job." It's no idle sound bite. The governor, an ex-corporate CEO with a checkered business past, is pushing a plan that would all but kill liberal arts and social sciences at the Sunshine State's public universities—and he's got support from the Legislature's psychology-hatin' GOP majority. He explained the strategy Monday in a separate interview with the Sarasota Herald-Tribune: Scott said Monday that he hopes to shift more funding to science, technology, engineering and math departments, the so-called "STEM" disciplines. The big losers: Programs like psychology and anthropology and potentially schools like New College in Sarasota that emphasize a liberal arts curriculum. "If I'm going to take money from a citizen to put into education then I’m going to take that money to create jobs," Scott said. "So I want that money to go to degrees where people can get jobs in this state." "Is it a vital interest of the state to have more anthropologists? I don't think so." Advertise on MotherJones.com Aside from his picking on Margaret Mead, Scott's reasoning could attract a lot of Floridians; after all, both political parties have reduced their platforms to "Where are the jobs?" shoutfests, assuming that life will be hunky dory once Motorola starts interviewing conveyor-belt widget assemblers again. But if Scott thinks that state colleges should only offer free-market-friendly majors, he's been sleeping in class. First, he ignores a host of recent research that shows college majors don't matter as much in graduates' long-term earning power as is often assumed. Second, "soft" subjects like anthropology (and philosophy, and history, and psychology, and English) serve their students pretty darn well: Take a look at the surprising list of notable Americans who majored in them... including Dubya, Carly Fiorina, Clarence Thomas, Billy Graham, and Ronald Reagan. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better marketer or brand specialist than an anthro major. None of that should matter, anyway. Is a degree's intrinsic value really reducible to its marketability? Just a few blocks from the governor's mansion, the Florida State University anthropology department—already ravaged by cuts and unable to admit new students—is fighting for its life by reminding visitors that anthropology is not only cost-effective and desirable on the job market, it's morally satisfying, too. "The Anthropology Department educates students about the lack of biological support for the race concept and challenges the racist ideas that have led to inequality and exploitation," the department's website states. Hard to put a pricetag on a lesson like that. That, in the end, is perhaps why Scott's really out to kill anthropology and the liberal arts: As opposed to conservative-friendly disciplines like economics and business management, liberal arts produce more culturally aware and progressive citizens, inclined to challenge ossified social conventions and injustices. Eliminate cultural and social sciences from public colleges, and you'll ultimately produce fewer community organizers, poets, and critics; you'll probably churn out more Rotarians, Junior Leaguers, and Republican donors. At the end of his radio spiel Monday, Scott said he was open to other folks' ideas. "If anybody has any ideas where they see waste, they see fraud, they see any problems in where the state spends its money, let me know," he told listeners. Well, Governor, you could start by paying as much for health insurance as your lowliest employees do. Or you could stop paying for unnecessary drug tests on the poorest and neediest Floridians. Or, if you really want to cut out waste from the state universities' budgets, you could trim out some fat from their football programs instead of anthropology departments. I've illustrated the possibilities in the chart below.

Obama Loses BIG TIME!....The 20 Trillion Dollar Man!!! 90 posts by 18 authors in alt.politics Tracey12 Post reply Jan 13 (9 days ago) Unexpectedly the situation is changing for the GOP. Although the Republicans have had few worthy candidates, and certainly no Ronldous Magus types, to their benefit the global economy is falling off a cliff. The EU has been making almost weekly deals withe P.I.G.S. to rescue them and the entire EU economy from certain disaster. The problem is, each week, the proposal is shot down by new data, or in this weeks scenario, the banks are refusing to help Greece under the current proposal. It is 99 percent certain that the EU is going to suffer a great recession, and now, with the complicating factors of PIGS defaulting on loans, the situation is dire indeed. Today, those in the know say that the global economy and the US economic picture are going to suffer a sharp downfall just about election time, thus Obama is almost certainly a one termer, thank HEAVENS! NO president has ever been reelected when the economy was faltering and it could be blamed on him. Obama will spend ANOTHER 4.8 TRILLION THIS YEAR ALONE! Meaning that we will be almost 20 Trillion in debt, and it took over 200 years to get to Ten Trillion, and only 4 to double that number to 20 Trillion Under Obama's increasingly iron fisted rule. GOODBYE UNCLE OBAMA! GOODBYE BIG SIS JANET BD NAPALITANO! GOODBYE AUTHORITARIANS! HELLO THE NEW REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT!!! LET FREEDOM REIGN!

Rep. Woodall Calls for Elimination of IRS

"To succeed, the FairTax cannot simply have a supporter; it needs a champion. I commit to you that Rob Woodall is that." - Congressman John Linder, retired Rep. Woodall Calls for Elimination of IRS The sponsor of the FairTax legislation and champion of the FairTax, Congressman Rob Woodall, wrote an outstanding piece on doing away with the IRS. We share it with you in its entirety. With tax season just around the corner, I want to call your attention to a Taxpayer Advocate report that was recently delivered to Congress discussing the abject failure of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to adequately serve America's taxpayers. Take a look at some of their outrageous (though not altogether surprising) findings:  * By the end of last year, it took the IRS more than six weeks to answer nearly half of taxpayers' letters and faxes dealing with adjustments to their returns. * Between 2004 and last year, the agency did not even bother to answer 30% of taxpayer phone calls. * Over the previous decade, 4,428 changes have been made to our 3.8 million-word tax code. Americans already waste $431 billion per year complying with our tax code, yet the IRS is clearly incapable of doing its part by providing basic services to those taxpayers - such as picking up the phone. What does the IRS demand as a solution to its failures? More of your money. That's right - the IRS wants an increase to the $11.8 billion they have already been given. We don't need to reform the IRS; we need to eliminate it. That is why I am championing H.R. 25, the FairTax, which would dismantle the IRS and replace our current tax code with a 23% consumption tax at the final point of purchase for new goods and services. Not only would the FairTax do away with the headache of income tax compliance, it would also replace all other federal taxes. Congress wouldn't need to continue debating whether or not Americans should get another two-month "holiday" from the payroll tax - the FairTax would permanently eliminate it. We wouldn't have to keep fighting over which industries should continue to be subsidized with federal dollars in this budget-slashing era; the FairTax would eliminate them all and level the playing field for everyone. Our current tax code is not doing America any favors. In fact, it is literally destroying economic growth and productivity. The sheer complexity of the law - taxpayers had to deal with 579 changes in 2010 alone - forces businesses to redirect precious resources from investment in new capital to tax code compliance. Instead of spending the $431 billion each year hiring new employees or investing in innovation, businesses are forced to spend the money complying with our punitive tax laws. Couple that with the fact that we have the highest book effective tax rate in the world, and it becomes clear that we need to scrap our tax code and start over. It is also clear that more freedom - not more bureaucracy and more government spending - is the answer. At its core, the FairTax is not a tax bill at all; it's a freedom bill. We need to free ourselves from the $11.8 billion annual price tag on the IRS; we need to free the most productive workforce in the world from the suffocating red tape of our tax code; and we must free our businesses from the barrier that is preventing America from being the best place in the world to invest. America needs to pass the FairTax and free ourselves from our destructive tax code - and the IRS - once and for all. - Congressman Rob Woodall, GA-07 Published in the Gwinnett Gazette http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=gMAISCr0hNb_T85Mtuf_Rw Grassroots Spotlight - Texas Volunteers The volunteer District Director for the 10th District of Texas, Ed Sarlls, did an outstanding job coordinating a FairTax booth last week. Here is his report. FairTax volunteers went above and beyond the call of duty, promoting the FairTax at the Saddle Up Texas Straw Poll on January 12-14. There were over 700 attendees including many activists, campaign staff, and talk radio outlets from Texas. During the event, volunteers staffed a FairTax booth, exchanged ideas for promoting the FairTax, educated Texans in attendance and signed up many new activists for our cause! Personal discussions were also held with three current U.S. House members (who are all FairTax sponsors), four U.S. Senate candidates and five U.S. House candidates and their campaign staff. In addition, FairTax Volunteer District Director and booth organizer, Ed Sarlls, was interviewed by political videographer, Eddie Gallegos, at the event and it was published to YouTube, here. http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=Zia5FIS9_HNJOSR9LPAEOg One candidate even sent a personal follow up email to the FairTax volunteers he met stating: "Thank you for further explaining the FairTax. I have come to a new epiphany that FairTax is a great model that we need to work to establish. While I have always been in favor of abolishing the the current punitive tax system, many of the individual policy proponents I've supported you have inside of the FairTax..." Many thanks to our twelve Texas FairTax volunteers who traveled to Houston and served 88 hours and also to Texas State Director, Marv Kuhn, who funded the booth cost. This event would not have been successful without all of us working together. The FairTax in the News  Whole tax system needs an overhaul - Smoky Mountain News http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=7VY5oTuNNG1YgWA1kF5E7w What America desperately needs is major tax reform. Many people see this and are in support, but the big guys like hiding the pea and have attorneys working against reform of any kind. The Fair Tax is a step in the right direction for tax reform, where each and every citizen with a Social Security number gets a prebate in the amount of defined poverty level. Income is not taxed at your employer, we would do away with the current tax system, and we would stop all the complicated tax filings that most Americans find hard to understand. Savings are not taxed, thereby encouraging more to save. Capital gains and the death tax would go away! What this would eliminate is the double and sometimes triple taxation on goods and income that is in place now. - Sonja Thompson, Franklin 'Fair Tax' is no threat to Social Security - NJ.com http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=GMfLSopI0T9Kpi5i-KBUXA ...the fair tax can be a significant step to safeguard Social Security, Medicare and other entitlements. It would be revenue-neutral; thus its consumption tax rate on only new products and services can be set up so that priority entitlements are fully funded... All these results together will then increase the probability that entitlements which seniors citizens value will be fully funded for decades. This will render retirement planning a much more stable and pleasant process. - Ted Hruzd, Morris Township The January FairTax Webinar With Special Topic: How the FairTax Neutralizes Tax Lobbyists When: Thursday, January 26, 2011 Time: 8 pm Eastern, 7 pm Central, 6 pm Mountain,  5 pm Pacific Where: At your personal computer anywhere! 17 Members of Congress From California Get Public Pensions Wednesday, 18 Jan 2012 04:08 PM

17 Members of Congress From California Get Public Pensions Wednesday, 18 Jan 2012 04:08 PM By Jamie Reno Share: More . . . A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article in Share Seventeen members of California’s congressional delegation collect a public pension on top of the salary they receive for working full-time jobs on Capitol Hill. Fifteen members of the House and both U.S. senators collected one or more public pensions in 2010 while earning their federal salaries, according to the lawmakers’ financial disclosure forms, reports UT San Diego. Their 2010 pension payments, which totaled $427,000, ranged from $1,922 to $79,881 and were collected in addition to the $174,000 a year made by rank-and-file lawmakers, according to UT San Diego. Four Republicans and 13 Democrats received the pension payments, including San Diego Democrat Rep. Bob Filner, who earned $13,495, and Republican Rep. Brian Bilbray, who earned $28,000. The top earner was Walnut Grove Democrat Rep. John Garamendi. Pension reform advocates suggest that collecting a pension while in a policy-making position can lead to conflicts of interest. While no one is suggesting that there is any violation of law, Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, told UT San Diego, “The issue is, ‘Is the system broken?’ And we would argue, ‘Of course it is.’ I think it’s examples like this and many others that cry out for reform.” The San Diego County Taxpayers Association supports having all or nearly all of California’s public pension plans replaced with 401(k)-style accounts where employers pay a set amount for each dollar an employee contributes to investments they manage. Critics of that approach say it may not save taxpayer money and may fail to provide public servants with money they need for retirement. One congressman, Democrat Rep. Michael Honda of Campbell, received a pension benefit in 2010 for his deceased spouse, bringing his total number of pensions to three, the most in the California delegation. San Diego County Taxpayers Association President and CEO Lani Lutar said the lawmakers’ pension payments raise concerns of double-dipping. “Pensions are meant to provide for basic expenses for retirement,” Lutar told UT San Diego “What we have observed is that some employees will receive more in public pension payments than at the peak of their career, and that is just absurd.”

WP Fact Check: Obama Claim that Romney Closed a Thousand Entities Is 'a real stretch' Wednesday, 18 Jan 2012 10:26 AM By Henry J. Reske Share: More . . . A A | Email Us | Print | Forward Article in Share President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign claims that GOP front-runner Mitt Romney “closed over a thousand plants, stores and offices” while making “hundreds of millions of dollars” while with investment firm Bain Capital. The claim is “a real stretch,” The Washington Post concluded in a fact check. The bulk of the thousand closures come from Bain’s deal with KB Toys that ended up shutting 600 stores when it filed for bankruptcy protection in 2004. The Post labels the KB Toys deal “a bit fishy.” “Bain paid $300 million for KB Toys in December 2000, but only put in $18.1 million in cash, borrowing the rest,” according to the Post. “Then, less than two years later, KB Toys took out bank loans to fund executive bonuses and dividends to Bain totaling more than $120 million. In 16 months, Bain had easily quadrupled its investment.” The company emerged from bankruptcy but was forced during the economic crisis to liquidate in 2008. However, this had little to do with Romney because the KB Toys deal went down after he left to head the Salt Lake Olympics early in 1999. Romney did retain an interest in Bain Capital until 2001 but the KB payout took place after he formally left the firm in 2002, the Post reported. “It is a real stretch to claim that Romney — himself! — ‘closed’ these stores. No evidence has emerged that he was involved in the KB Toys transaction,” the Post wrote. “Two wrongs don’t make a right” the Post concluded in awarding the claim three Pinocchios. “Just because Romney exaggerated claims about job creation does not mean that the Obama campaign can tag him with store closings in which he appears to have played no role.”

Monday night the five remaining candidates were queried about what they believed the highest possible federal income tax rate should be. While the rest of the field offered substantive percentages, Texas Rep. Ron Paul set himself apart by saying that Americans’ income tax rate should be zero percent. (RELATED: Full coverage of Ron Paul’s campaign) “We should have the lowest tax that we’ve ever had, and up until 1913 it was zero percent,” Paul said. “What’s so bad about that?” By contrast Texas Gov. Rick Perry said the highest rate should be 20 percent, Gingrich said the highest rate should be 15 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said 25 percent and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum said it should be 28 percent. Paul added, however, that the real culprit in the tax game is inflation. “Now I would like to follow up on that because I think the question on taxes is generally misleading, because anytime you spend money it’s a tax,” Paul added. “You might tax, you might barrow, you might inflate. The vicious tax that is attacking the American people, the retired people today, is the inflation tax. The devaluation of the currency. The standard of living is going down and you need to address that. And that is why I want to make the inflation tax zero as well.” Fox News host Brett Baier attempted to clarify his statement, asking “So your answer is zero?” “Zero,” Paul answered. fairtax

"You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action." - Anthony Robbins Feature Article: New Jersey Leads the Way! One of the most impressive volunteer media efforts last year was initiated by Doug Hartlove in New Jersey. Here's his story of how it was possible. Last January I organized a New Jersey Rapid Response Team (RRT) that has had remarkable results in spreading the FairTax message, including 38 letters to the editor published in 2011 and online postings generating dozens of comments! As the coordinator, I would send the RRT members a link from New Jersey newspapers on the 15th and 30th of each month. I included guidance on word limits and gave specific instructions on where to send the finished letters. So that other team members could continue learning about the FairTax and writing letters to the editor, we distributed our letters to each other. Each team member knew they would get two links to target publications each month and the preparation they needed in order to begin writing their letter. Volunteers found the work to be fun and rewarding while not being over burdening due to a limited scope. The end result was that thousands of Americans have seen our FairTax letters to the editor, making this project's ground game a very worthwhile endeavor. Doug Hartlove Do you want an easy way to influence people around you? Write a letter to the editor with these quick tips here! http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=kew4TD6oirdf-OW0wM5vGA The Grassroots Spotlight - Al Ose We asked the top FairTax letter to the editor expert, Al Ose, to explain the secret to his success. We FairTaxers have a burning desire to pass the FairTax plan and writing a letter to the editor releases some of that energy and feels great! In order to create interest in a letter to the editor it's helpful to start out with a current event or problem and thread the FairTax into your story. This approach allows the writer to describe how passage of the FairTax might impact the event and solve the problem. As you write your letter you may determine that you need to conduct additional FairTax research. Well researched and factual statements will always make for strong letters. Keep in mind, not all letters will be printed, but don't become discouraged. Keep writing! When the paper's editor sees more and more letters on the FairTax, they will be more inclined to publish more opinions. Lastly, I can't tell you how important numbers are. When your newspaper starts printing multiple FairTax letters from different people, we'll gain more credibility and many new supporters. I began writing letters to the editor in January of '99 when I realized I could reach a much larger audience for the FairTax using newspapers as a communication vehicle. I quickly realized that writing letters to many editors provided compound interest. I researched and found email addresses for newspaper editors. During the past ten years I've sent letters to these 81 editors across Wisconsin. To date I've had at least 156 letters published. Best regards, Al Ose The FairTax in the News End tax blame game by enacting Fair Tax - NJ.com http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=muX5CKf8kdwDsp-fANyIpw ...This holiday (a cut in Social Security payroll deductions) is a political blame game with both parties trying to win votes, but not helping the people who rely on Social Security. This so-called holiday will cause underfunding, and will hurt unemployed or retired workers who no longer contribute to Social Security. Let's find a better solution. Take a bold approach to business expansion in this country by enacting House Resolution 25, "The Fair Tax." The Fair Tax (a national sales tax proposal) would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service, all federal personal and corporate income taxes, and all federal payroll taxes - while being revenue neutral. With Fair Tax enactment, corporations could plan for the future. Foreign investors would put money into the U.S. economy, while hard-working people will be able to work for themselves instead of the government... 'Fair Tax' deserves to be considered, not ignored - News-Sentinel http://www.fairtax.org/site/R?i=OiLL7exu_9CaXZchI-8nbw ...If you can keep all of your paycheck, they point out, you'll have more money to spend. With corporate taxes eliminated, companies would stop sheltering their cash offshore, using it to create jobs here. In fact, supporters insist, studies indicate that passage of the fair tax would result in more revenue for the government, higher incomes for workers and retires and would result in increased philanthropy despite the elimination of deductions for charitable giving. What's more, they say, the fair tax is progressive - a byproduct of the wealthy buying more stuff and so-called "prebates" - a monthly return of sales tax revenues based on the size of families. You've got to admit, there's a certain appeal to being able to control your taxes simply by controlling your spending. What's more, Armstrong pointed out, the fair tax is consistent with the Constitution's original intent... http://www.craigslist.org/about/SOPA about > SOPA Stop HR 3261 (SOPA) and S 968 (PIPA) Internet Blacklist Bills Congress needs to hear from you, or these dangerous bills will pass - they have tremendous lobbying dollars behind them, from large corporations reportedly hoping to prop up outdated, anti-consumer business models at the expense of the very fabric of the Internet -- recklessly unleashing a tsunami of take-down notices and litigation, and a Pandora's jar of "chilling effects" and other unintended (or perhaps intended?) consequences. Monster Cable considers craigslist a "rogue site" for takedown under PIPA - they want to prevent YOU from selling your unwanted cables so they can increase sales! Many other "rights holders" want to do the same. Boycott anyone? There is an app for that. SOPA/PIPA supporters want to block you from reaching ANY site they think is hurting their profits -- without due process or review in any court -- by (can you believe this?) interrupting Internet traffic via DNS at ISPs and by censoring search engine results. Many lawmakers are prepared to give them that right. Congress is starting to backpedal on this anti-American nonsense, but SOPA/PIPA cannot be fixed -- they must be killed. Sen Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Rep Ron Wyden (D-OR) are championing a sane alternative to SOPA/PIPA called Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act (OPEN). In honor of Ron Paul’s obsessive fans we’re publishing the following article, showing his history of discrimination. As anyone with a blog, YouTube account, MySpace page, or web site knows Ron Paul supporters are everywhere! The internet is filled with them. The frightening thing that I have witnessed is that many liberal voters are giving some credence to Ron Paul’s campaign and message. He somehow comes across as different or better than the run of the mill conservatives filling the Republican ticket. I do not support Ron Paul in ANY and I find his Congressional record and policies to be, at times, even scarier than his counterparts. The only thing that I have found to agree with him on is the fact that he does not support the war in Iraq. After extensive research I have compiled a list of 10 reasons NOT to vote for Ron Paul! 1. Ron Paul does not value equal rights for minorities. Ron Paul has sponsored legislation that would repeal affirmative action, keep the IRS from investigating private schools who may have used race as a factor in denying entrance, thus losing their tax exempt status, would limit the scope of Brown versus Board of Education, and would deny citizenship for those born in the US if their parents are not citizens. Here are links to these bills: H.R.3863, H.R.5909, H.J.RES.46, and H.J.RES.42. 2. Ron Paul would deny women control of their bodies and reproductive rights.Ron Paul makes it very clear that one of his aims is to repeal Roe v. Wade. He has also co sponsored 4 separate bills to “To provide that human life shall be deemed to exist from conception.” This, of course, goes against current medical and scientific information as well as our existing laws and precedents. Please see these links: H.R.2597 and H.R.392 3. Ron Paul would be disastrous for the working class. He supports abolishing the Federal minimum wage, has twice introduced legislation to repeal OSHA, or the Occupational Safety and Health Act and would deal devastating blows to Social Security including repealing the act that makes it mandatory for employees of nonprofits, to make “coverage completely optional for both present and future workers”, and would “freeze benefit levels”. He has also twice sponsored legislation seeking to repeal the Davis-Bacon Act and the Copeland Act which among other things provide that contractors for the federal government must provide the prevailing wage and prohibits corporate “kick backs.” Here are the related legislative links: H.R.2030, H.R.4604, H.R.736, and H.R.2720 4. Ron Paul’s tax plan is unfair to lower earners and would greatly benefit those with the highest incomes. He has repeatedly submitted amendments to the tax code that would get rid of the estate and gift taxes, tax all earners at 10%, disallow income tax credits to individuals who are not corporations, repeal the elderly tax credit, child care credit, earned income credit, and other common credits for working class citizens. Please see this link for more information: H.R.05484 Summary 5. Ron Paul’s policies would cause irreparable damage to our already strained environment. Among other travesties he supports off shore drilling, building more oil refineries, mining on federal lands, no taxes on the production of fuel, and would stop conservation efforts that could be a “Federal obstacle” to building and maintaining refineries. He has also sought to amend the Clean Air Act, repeal the Soil and Water Conservation Act of 1977, and to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to “restrict the jurisdiction of the United States over the discharge of dredged or fill material to discharges into waters”. To see for yourself the possible extent of the damage to the environment that would happen under a Paul administration please follow these links: H.R.2504, H.R.7079, H.R.7245, H.R.2415, H.R.393, H.R.4639, H.R.5293, and H.R.6936 6. A Ron Paul administration would continue to proliferate the negative image of the US among other nations. Ron Paul supports withdrawing the US from the UN, when that has not happened he has fought to at least have the US withdrawn from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. He has introduced legislation to keep the US from giving any funds to the UN. He also submitted that the US funds should not be used in any UN peacekeeping mission or any UN program at all. He has sponsored a bill calling for us to “terminate all participation by the United States in the United Nations, and to remove all privileges, exemptions, and immunities of the United Nations.”Ron Paul twice supported stopping the destruction of intercontinental ballistic missile silos in the United States. He also would continue with Bush’s plan of ignoring international laws by maintaining an insistence that the International Criminal Court does not apply to the US, despite President Clinton’s signature on the original treaty. The International Criminal Court is used for, among other things, prosecution of war crimes. Please see the following links: H.R.3891, H.AMDT.191, H.AMDT.190, H.R.3769, H.R.1665, H.CON.RES.23, and H.R.1154 7. Ron Paul discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation and would not provide equal rights and protections to glbt citizens. This is an issue that Paul sort of dances around. He has been praised for stating that the federal government should not regulate who a person marries. This has been construed by some to mean that he is somewhat open to the idea of same sex marriage, he is not. Paul was an original co sponsor of the Marriage Protection Act in the House in 2004. Among other things this discriminatory piece of legislation placed a prohibition on the recognition of a same sex marriage across state borders. He said in 2004 that if he was in the Texas legislature he would not allow judges to come up with “new definitions” of marriage. Paul is a very religious conservative and though he is careful with his words his record shows that he is not a supporter of same sex marriage. In 1980 he introduced a particularly bigoted bill entitled “A bill to strengthen the American family and promote the virtues of family life.” or H.R.7955 A direct quote from the legislation “Prohibits the expenditure of Federal funds to any organization which presents male or female homosexuality as an acceptable alternative life style or which suggest that it can be an acceptable life style.” shows that he is unequivocally opposed to lifestyles other than heterosexual. 8. Ron Paul has an unnatural obsession with guns. One of Paul’s loudest gripes is that the second amendment of the constitution is being eroded. In fact, he believes that September 11 would not have happened if that wasn’t true. He advocates for there to be no restrictions on personal ownership of semi-automatic weaponry or large capacity ammunition feeding devices, would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act (because we all know our schools are just missing more guns), wants guns to be allowed in our National Parks, and repeal the Gun Control Act of 1968. Now, I’m pretty damn certain that when the Constitution was written our founding fathers never intended for people to be walking around the streets with AK47′s and “large capacity ammunition feeding devices.” (That just sounds scary.) Throughout the years our Constitution has been amended and is indeed a living document needing changes to stay relevant in our society. Paul has no problem changing the Constitution when it fits his needs, such as no longer allowing those born in the US to be citizens if their parents are not. On the gun issue though he is no holds barred. I know he’s from Texas but really, common sense tells us that the amendments he is seeking to repeal have their place. In fact, the gun control act was put into place after the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert Kennedy. Please view the following links: H.R.2424, H.R.1897, H.R.1096, H.R.407, H.R.1147, and H.R.3892. 9. Ron Paul would butcher our already sad educational system. The fact is that Ron Paul wants to privatize everything and that includes education. Where we run into problems is that it has been shown (think our current health care system) that this doesn’t work so well in practice. Ron Paul has introduced legislation that would keep the Federal Government “from planning, developing, implementing, or administering any national teacher test or method of certification and from withholding funds from States or local educational agencies that fail to adopt a specific method of teacher certification.” In a separate piece of legislation he seeks to “prohibit the payment of Federal Education assistance in States which require the licensing or certification of private schools or private school teachers.” So basically the federal government can’t regulate teaching credentials and if states opt to require them for private schools they get no aid. That sounds like a marvelous idea teachers with no certification teaching in private schools that are allowed to discriminate on the basis of race. He is certainly moving forward with these proposals!Remember his “bill to strengthen the American family and promote the virtues of family life.” or H.R.7955? Guess what? He basically advocates for segregation in schools once again. It “Forbids any court of the United States from requiring the attendance at a particular school of any student because of race, color, creed, or sex.” Without thinking about this statement it doesn’t sound bad at all. But remember, when desegregating schools that this is done by having children go to different schools, often after a court decision as in Brown Vs. Board of Education. If this were a bill that passed, schools would no longer be compelled to comply and the schools would go back to segregation based on their locations. Ron Paul is really starting to look like a pretty bigoted guy don’t you think? 10. Ron Paul is opposed to the separation of church and state. This reason is probably behind every other thing that I disagree with in regards to Paul’s positions. Ron Paul is among those who believes that there is a war on religion, he stated “Through perverse court decisions and years of cultural indoctrination, the elitist, secular Left has managed to convince many in our nation that religion must be driven from public view.” (( Koyaanisqatsi Blog: Wrong Paul Why I Do Not Want Ron Paul to be My President )) Though he talks a good talk, at times, Ron Paul can’t get away from his far right, conservative views. He would support “alternative views” to evolution taught in public schools (i.e. Intelligent Design.) We’ve already taken a look at his “bill to strengthen the American family and promote the virtues of family life.” or H.R.7955Besides hating the gays he takes a very religious stance on many other things. He is attempting to force his beliefs on the rest of America, exactly what he would do as president. So there you have it, my 10 reasons not to vote for Ron Paul. Please take the time to thoroughly review the records of the people running for office so you know where they really stand. Ron Paul has good rhetoric and he opposes the war but he’s not a good man in the human rights sense of the phrase. He is pretty much like every other Republican but more insidious. Here is a video that you should watch after reading this article. Really listen to what he says and how he says it. Watch out for the sneaky ones and RESEARCH! His calls for ending all foreign wars and shutting hundreds of military bases across the globe have drawn howls from his GOP rivals, who have labeled the moves irresponsible and naïve. His campaign pledge of cutting all foreign aid and withdrawing U.S. participation in the World Trade Organization and the United Nations has been at odds with even the most conservative members of his own party. Yet as voting day in Iowa and New Hampshire draws near, Paul, the Congressman from Texas, is finding support for his non-interventionist positions from a growing number of foreign policy experts. “He’s attacking our rich lazy friends, why is that not more popular,” said Harvey Sapolsky, emeritus professor of public policy and organization at MIT. He backs Paul’s calls for reducing America’s military budget, arguing that much of it is used to defend wealthy nations’ security. A huge, Cold War-era global presence — with hundreds of overseas military bases — isn’t necessary, now that the Soviet threat is over and the collapse of communism, Sapolsky said. “It’s not in America’s interest,” said Sapolsky, who added that despite the drumbeat in the media over the fear of terrorism, America is the safest it has ever been in its history. Christopher Preble, vice president for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, is also another foreign policy expert who agrees that the United States is extraordinarily secure due to its geography and nuclear weapons, and doesn’t need a huge global presence. He also argued that the United States’ military is being used in overseas conflicts with little or no national interest, specifically pointing to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Preble gave Paul credit for being one of the few outspoken critics of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. “A lot of people won’t say come home,” Sapolsky said. “But Ron Paul does and that’s great.” Report to moderator Logged Live free or die 333386 Getbig V Posts: 76887 Re: 10 Reasons Not To Vote For Ron Paul « Reply #4 on: November 07, 2011, 12:40:29 PM » Check out my thread of RP from 1983. Founder Of Stormfront Openly Endorses Ron Paul, Says Paul Shares Their Views (VIDEO) December 28, 2011 By Stephen D. Foster Jr. Ron Paul is surging in the polls and that means he’s going to be hit with a freight train full of baggage from the past and a whole lot of new stuff from the present. But this is something that Ron Paul didn’t need right now given his past with racist newsletters and the current endorsement from the Ku Klux Klan. On Tuesday, during an appearance on The Young Turks on Current TV, Don Black, the founder of the white supremacist group known as Stormfront, endorsed Ron Paul and claimed that their views coincide with Paul’s. Black tried to exonerate Paul of the racism charges that have plagued his political career but he fell short of being convincing. “He’s clearly not a white nationalist, he does not have the same worldview we do. But we agree with his stand on the issues, which we believe are heartfelt, coincide with ours. I might prefer that he understand the racial issues that we deal with a little more than he does. We believe that white people in this country and all European countries, Australia, Canada are facing a form of genocide through assimilation.” Here’s the video: The problem with Black’s claim is that Ron Paul once defended his racist newsletters and former aides have regaled the media with stories of Paul’s homophobia, racism, and anti-Semitism. Paul reportedly once refused to use a gay man’s bathroom and is against the existence of Israel. And no matter how hard Ron Paul tried to run from those racist newsletters, his name is still on them and being endorsed by two white supremacist groups isn’t helping Paul’s image one bit. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/12/28/founder-of-stormfront-openly-endorses-ron-paul-says-paul-shares-their-views-video/ Report to moderator Logged 333386 Getbig V Posts: 76887 Re: 10 Reasons Not To Vote For Ron Paul « Reply #11 on: December 29, 2011, 04:14:59 PM » See Beach - this is why your liberal friends are not smart and are a bunch of fools.
